The Idea Of Community Focused Building
What make a product, company or person valuable?
It's that they are specialized in being the best of the best in whatever category that might be. We in marketing call those micro niches and they are becoming ever more popular in all aspects of our lives.
Gone are the days of "catch all" where anything goes and in comes community focused.
Why do I bring this up today?
It's because I ran into a article/video today from Leo Finance about Community pages which you can check out here The Focus on Community Pages
The Birth Of Communities
I remember when these first released and thought it was a good idea. However some of the topics lack any real news that's worth wild or the communities themselves are small. As highlighted in LoeFinances post Splinterlands is one of the most active and I believe it for one core reason.
Splinterlands is on Hive and the full support of the ecosystem is behind it unlike something like Polygon.
What Holds Communities Back
You see many of these "mainstream" blockchains are run like a business. For instance Ethereum and now Polygon are heavily business minded driven. The last thing you do is promote your blockchain on someone else blockchain and I feel that's a reason many of the communities currently fail or for better words greatly under performs.
There's just not enough people on hive/LEO right now that care about many of those other communities.
If there's enough information and people that care about a project/community then there is natural interaction between people and that's what ultimately fuels a social media platform. A base layer of people that write content that's only found on that platform and then a community that cares and comes and interacts with it.
Why Community Focus Is Critical To Growth
Many web3 socials lack any good algo to filter out what people might like and enjoy next. TikTok might be the highest end AI and it works rather well, youtube is also right up there but in terms of web3 applications it's pretty much anything goes with no algo filter.
Thus born is communities and I'd love to see if it's not planned already to have threads right inside of each of the communities so that topics can be talked about within a community setting as well.
I'd also love to see comments section replaced with a threads second instead so if you select to auto post your article to a thread any thread comment after that or made on the article page actully logs it into the thread feature I think that would be another major step up in terms of organizing the ever growing amount of content that is going to be hitting LEO over the coming months.
That being said I'm hopeful in this new direction and while we community members can do a fair amount to help growth it is also up to the team to build the layout and functions we need to keep things running smooth and decently organized. The best thing to drive people away is if they are chatting about Topic A and some weird Topic B comes out of left field. It's like that one guy at the party that doesn't talk and then they finally say something and you're just like WTF...
