Not long ago I shared some silver as well as my onboarding effort for X user silverlynx,
He reached out to me and was wondering if I can make him some custom stuff for his casting operation.
I agreed, he provided a picture of his logo on a shield and I turned it into a 3d model ready for printing.
I also got my self a smaller nozzle for the 3d printer to be able to get even more detail, I got 2 nozzle a few keeps later below is a picture of one of them.
It took some tinkering to get the setting right for this new nozzle but after a little while I was getting good quality prints, I think I will make another post that goes in depth into printer nozzles.
I set the model I made for him along with a casting support system I cam up with.
but as you can see bellow It didn't work out
I very quickly realized the nozzle got worn down, now wear and tear is normal but for a 5 hour total print time that is totally unacceptable, I did have another that came with it, I got my money back for the nozzle and the second seems to be holding up, so maybe one of them was somehow a dud.
With this second fine nozzle I printed a few more shield some without my support system,
The one bellow is printed in ASA a material that is a lot stronger.
Then I tried to make some with PVB a alcohol soluble material I sprayed some on it to try and make a smoother finish hiding the print lines, however I am not sure it worked great and may end up drowning out some detail, also I think with sand casting the amount of detail is limited so trying to get a super smooth surface will not be helpful.
I printed him a couple out if different materials the gif above is of a failed print you may notice the tip of the shield lifted resulting in poor detail in that section, that was on me and my bed temperature was a tab to low.
