Hey there, fellow adventurers! This is my FIRST POST here in Pinmapple... so hopefully ive got this right!!!
The MINI Vacation - SeaWorld Australia
love it if you could join my family (2parents 2 young kids) recounting our epic family mini-break to Sea World, Australia. We treked down on Saturday morning and Stayed down the coast. It was a weekend packed with excitement, where we dived headfirst into the wonders of marine life, caught awesome shows, chatted with keepers, and had our minds blown by the incredible aquarium. Oh, and of course, we indulged in some seriously yummy (and slightly pricey) treats along the way!
But I also want to talk about the importance of marine parks, some things to think about, and how this adventure sparked an environmental fire in our girls! I know its all fun on the surface but marine parks and zoos raise some interesting conversational and conservational topics that need to be addressed.
Picture this: we rocked up to the dolphin show, ready for an afternoon of splashes and flips. But guess what? Our little munchkin was having none of it and refused to budge! We got out of the auditorium with much difficulty when she was so upset to be missing the dolphins, So, what did we do? We watched the show twice in a row! Yep, you heard that right. The acrobatic displays, the trainers' mind-blowing bond with these majestic creatures, and the sheer joy on everyone's faces were too good to pass up. Eventually we bribed her out with icecream. lol!!! And let's not forget the seal show! Those cheeky, adorable critters stole our hearts as they clapped, honked, and showed off their impressive skills. The little one was laughing as the keepers "Lost" the seals and then came up behind the keepers. It was great to watch.
Yes i know this Polar bear LOOKS CGI, but i guarentee... he is just been photographed through the gap in a tiny bar... lol.. will show the big photo below so you believe me... lololol...
It wasn't all about the shows. We had the chance to geek out with the polar bear keepers, who were like walking encyclopedias of bear facts. We chatted about their habitat, conservation efforts, and even got some inside scoop on polar bear antics. I had no idea how big they were till i saw them up close. Mostly it was my husband that wanted to talk about the bears though, the kids wanted to "go see sharks"...
Oh, and the aquarium! It was like stepping into a mesmerizing undersea world. We spent a good half-hour just gaping at the colorful fish, swaying coral, and otherworldly creatures. Talk about a mesmerizing experience!
This was another place that the 4 year old had to be yanked out of... she wanted to watch the "big shark" all day. And the big one was totally excited to see a "neemo" fish... lol..
Balancing Expenses and Raising Awareness:
Now, let's talk money. We knew treats were on the agenda, so we shamelessly indulged in ice creams that made our taste buds dance. But hold onto your hats, folks, because we encountered a mind-blowing situation: our burger lunch with icecream cost almost as much as our fancy five-star dinner with three mouthwatering courses later that evening!!!!!! Yeah, we had to pick our jaws up off the floor. Look, we get that these parks need funding, but it's essential to ensure the cash is going toward animal welfare, conservation, and educational initiatives. Gotta keep things balanced, you know? Hopefully our money bought a toy for a dolphin.. lol
Burgers were $24 each (with a water and chips) and the icecreams were $10 each and throw in a popcorn for show and we were looking at $160!!!!!. For an ok ( but lets face it pretty crappy meal) ( granted the chips were great and the burger tasty... but it was just a burger.)
dinner at a lovely Three Sixty restaurant on the forshore, was $220 for kids menus, drinks, dessert, and we had three delicious mouthwatering meals with truffle mushroom arancini balls, and tender pork and zucchini, and i had a delicious piece of baked salmon with caper salad, and husband a slow cook lamb dish, WITH beers and WITH large glasses of wine. All finished up with sticky date pudding and ice cream and chocolates brownies.
good thing we were happy to pay, as there was no running out fast after that meal... i was waddling and very slow... lol lol lol.
The Benefits of Marine Parks:
Alright, let's dive into the good stuff. Marine parks, like Sea World, are like superheroes for marine life education. They don't just entertain—they educate, inspire, and make us realize the importance of conserving these incredible creatures. From jaw-dropping shows that leave you in awe to up-close encounters that make your heart skip a beat, these parks bring marine wonders right to our fingertips. And you know what? Our girls have soaked up all of it like sponges. "Caring for the environment" is now part of their everyday lingo, which is mind-boggling because, back in our day, it wasn't such a big deal.
Considerations and Animal Welfare:
Now, let's address the elephant—or should we say, the dolphin?—in the room. I totally get it that some folks have concerns about animals in captivity, and we totally get it.Its really hard to know if it is a really good thing for them or not? We need to take a step back and reflect on the ethics and sustainability of keeping marine animals confined. Critics raise valid points about their well-being, and we can't ignore that. While parks like Sea World strive to prioritize animal care, research, and conservation, we should keep a watchful eye and demand the highest standards. I would NEVER want an animal HARMED because i wanted to see it dance... but if they are having fun and well cared for that is fine. But the morals of keeping an animal confined are never far from my mind.
What do YOU all think... i mean i totally get people that hate the idea of it... but the people there TRUELY believe they are doing amazing things... and THEY DO... all the work they do in conservation and things. they are heros.
That being said... My girls have got to see how BEAUTIFUL wildlife is and i KNOW that places like this (followed up with education) MUST help foster conservational conversations in their little minds.
Conclusion, OMG do i need a conclusion.. lol:
Our Sea World escapade was an absolute blast! We laughed, we learned, and we made memories that will last a lifetime. But it doesn't end there. We left with more than just souvenirs and sun-kissed cheeks. We left with a renewed sense of responsibility for our planet and its amazing inhabitants. Yeah, there are debates and discussions to be had, but one thing's for sure—our girls are fired up to protect the environment and its creatures. And for that, we raise a toast to Sea World and all the marine parks out there. They're making waves in conservation and helping us pave a brighter future for generations to come. We loved it.. and will go back for sure. However we will need to save the pennies again... because... POhewwww that was a pricy mini-vacation!!! lol
