Hello! This post is for Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Support Articles. For this week, I am going to talk about the reward shops, and why you should buy the chests firstly instead of other things in the glint shop like cards.
Loot Chests
Loot Chests are like the daily chests that we can get from before glint was introduced. It is broken down into 3 tiers. Minor, Major, and Ultimate.
Minor Chests
Minor Chests are the cheapest one, with only 200 glint per chest. It has a chance to contain 1 Reward Card, 1 Leg/Alchemy Potion, around 100 Merits, 1 Energy, or a Jackpot, which is only 0.001% chance. The advantage of Minor Chests are that you can get many chests due to how cheap it is, and if you can get lucky, you can get some Epics / Energies. It is also an efficient way to get Potions, if you are running out because you can get potions and also some other stuffs with bulk buys.
Major Chests
Major Chests are 1,000 Glint each, costing 5x more than Minor Chests. The difference between Minor and Major chests are that the Epic card chance is tripled (1.0% -> 3.0%), along with Legendries (0.1% -> 1%) and Gold Foils (0.25 -> 0.75%), and has more card amounts for commons, rares and epics. It also has 10% chance to gain 1~4 Energies and 3~7 Potions. Overall, the high amount of energy allows you to get Energies efficiently when you are in Gold I or above, and also has more decent chance for Legendries with the cheap price.
Ultimate Chests
Ultimate Chests are 4,500 Glint each, which costs 4.5x more than Major chests and 22.5x more than Minor Chests. Although the name is good, it is actually not a really good chest in my opinion for ~Gold league players because you simply cannot get this much glint. However, if you have the glint, you might try to roll for Legendries (6.4% with potion), GFs (8% with potion), and Jackpots (0.1%) since they have higher chance to be obtained. Also, energy has 20% chance, and it is guaranteed to have at least 3.
Why are they better?
There are a lot of reasons that the chests, even Ultimate ones, are better than getting individual card pulls.
- 1: You get Energies! Energy price gets ridiculously higher at Champion, or in even Diamond level. Minor and Major chests can be the cheaper way to get energies.
- 2: You get other rewards that are also important! Merits are important for your Gladius Packs, and Potions ensure that you have higher chance of getting scarce cards like GF Epics or Legs. This cannot be achieved when you only buy cards.
- 3: A low chance for Jackpot! Although being less than 1% in all chests, you can rarely get them once in a while, especially if you buy batches of Ultimate Chests.
- 4: More fun! With Jackpot chances and other chances for good rewards, this makes opening the rewards more fun. It is true that card openings also has random chances, but this is much better in my opinion.
However, some might not like reward chests. Mostly it is because of RNG issues. I believe that they can just buy the guaranteed card pull instead.
Opening 90 Major Chests
Now, I will be opening 90 Major Chests, with 9 batches each with 10 chests to ensure that energy does not go over 50, which the energy will not regenerate.
Chests 1
Card-wise it is not the best with only 4 Dragon Egg Foragers. However, I got ~20 Potions, 1.5K Merits and most importantly, 5 Energies which impacts the chest's value a lot.
Chests 2
I got some Rares and a few commons, but no energies though. Potions are nice but it is too much.
Chests 3
Also too much potions and no energy. The merits alone is almost a gladius pack though.
Chests 4
5 Card pulls but only 1 Rares. Nimbledook Explorer is nice because that is one of the best in commons. Also no energy again...
Chests 5
Finally 3 Energies. Apart from the energies, I got an Epic which allowed me to get Halfling to level 2.
Chests 6
Only 1 card but GF is nice! Also I got 5 Energies and a full Gladius pack worth of Merits!
Chests 7
2 Rare pull, 2 Common pull, and 4 Energy. That 4 energy alone is almost 10K glint in low Champ/high Diamond.
Chests 8
A Legendary card!!! (Along with 2 Epics, 3 Rares and 5 Commons) This marks my 4th RW Leg in total. Also 3 Energy is nice.
Chests 9
The final chest. It is nice with 6 Energies and a ton of cards, with another Night Reaper along with 5 Rares and 17 Commons in total.
Reward Breakdown
I will be mainly focusing on Cards, since I want to compare them with normal pulls.
Common cards: 72 cards * 150 Glint = 10,800 Glint worth
Rare cards: 21 cards * 750 Glint = 15,750 Glint worth
Epic cards: 4 cards * 7500 Glint = 30,000 Glint worth
Legendary cards: 1 card * 35000 Glint = 35,000 Glint worth
The total card value alone is around the same value as 90 Major chest's glint value (90,000 Glint). However, I also got the extra Potions, Merits, and Energies, which means that I got more value out of it than simply buying the cards on the draws.
Conclusion
And that is the end! I think that Glint is a more interesting way of rewards, since it means that you can choose whatever you want to buy. I hope everyone who read thought this post was helpful!
