Photo Quest competition for this week: Horizon.
That often happens to me. I sit on a pile of photos and can't decide which ones to choose and what to write about them. I'm so glad when I get a suggestion, like this one from Qurator or other contests for photographers, big or small ( the photographers).
These weekly themed contests should lead to a hunt for photos that fit the theme. That is, photos taken specifically for that contest. I often don't have a way to photograph something that matches the theme, so I do the opposite. I don't photograph after I have found out the theme but I search the archive to find something that fits. It can be considered a bit of a cheat. I don't consider it so, as long as the photo belongs to me. I can even consider myself a bit visionary and think that I once sensed that this theme would be chosen... some other time!
When I saw this week's theme, I can say that I was very happy.
I live in a relatively large and crowded city, both with people and buildings. So many buildings around that for me the horizon is only a few meters away...
Some would say I'm a fool instead of being happy that I'm so close to the horizon that I could reach it.
Surely they don't know that the horizon is more beautiful the further away it is!
I'm thinking of entering this photo in the contest, or rather, this is my entry in the Photo Quest competition.
A recent trip to my childhood village brought my horizon back. Every time I arrive at my grandparents' house the first thing I do is climb the nearby hill and look around.
At the top of the hill, there is a plateau from where you can see as far as the horizon. When I was a child I used to spend all day, week and summer in this place. That's how I got used to the wide perspective and the space. Those things I missed so much after I came to the city.
Now my nephews are playing on this place!
My favorite view, is the village next to the village where I grew up.
Sometimes I don't like contest themes, other times I can't participate because I don't know or can't get close to the theme but this time, today's theme, Horizon, gave me great pleasure. It reminded me of my childhood and living in the country, where the spaces are open, not covered by tall buildings.
