Summer Is A Long Way Away, And Yet...

in #hive-1963082 years ago

I'm sorry that part of me is like that. I think I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I'll only refer to what I feel, not yet having the evidence or testimonies of others.

What am I referring to? The seasons. Here where I live there are all of them, that is four. I know for sure because I remember what I learned at school, that on one side of the earth, there are only two seasons, and now I sit and try to remember if there are places with only one season. I can't remember what I learned in school. I'm of the older generation, who lived three-quarters of my life without the internet and Google, and I'm still not used to looking there for answers to my questions. I try to remember things from the so-called "general culture", which is the sum of information and knowledge that a man accumulates in his existence. This information in my brain is (was) a lot, a great volume of knowledge put there by a school, by my own observations, by readings, and other sources of information, but which is now attacked by forgetfulness, both because of its non-use and, especially, because of the aging process.

So, from memory and without googling it, I think there are regions of the globe with only one season, either winter only or tropical climate, so summer only. If I'm wrong or if I'm right, maybe someone can tell me!

Seasons, what's really my problem? My problem is that I especially love summer. When it's summer, everything is fine. When it's not summer, I still think about summer, dream about summer, and, especially when the season is cold, I try to remember summer, to forget about the bad weather outside. The photos from holidays, from trips to the sea, help me the most. For me, summer is linked to the sea, I can't imagine a summer without the sea!

In Bucharest, where I live, it should be winter now. It's not! This winter looked, in the beginning, like early autumn and now it looks like late autumn, that is to say, it started raining and getting colder. This is exactly the time when I start dreaming, far too prematurely, of summer and the sea. The only way I can quench this longing is through memories and photos from the sea. I will try to show some now...

Summer is a long way away, and yet... I can get there with my imagination and memories.

The island is the place where the sea is at its fullest, the sea is all around. Always when I was getting close to disembarking from the ferry that took us from the mainland to the island, my excitement and thrill were at their peak. Both because I would be stepping ashore and arriving at the place I had been thinking about for a whole year, and because I would be stepping ashore... and getting rid of the fear I have when I'm on the water.

The place of my dreams, a kind of dream within a dream, is the island of Thassos, one of the largest islands in Greece. Located in the northern part of Greece, in the Aegean Sea, it is the island that is the most accessible for me, only about 800 km away. The island is also called an emerald island because of the color of the seawater.

Beyond all these beauties I remember with pleasure(?) the money spent there. I meant I remember the pleasure of shopping on holiday when I somehow forgot about the barriers I used to put on my wallet when I was at home. It was hard to resist buying as long as everywhere I looked there was something for sale...

Even if most of the objects offered for sale were somewhat insignificant, they exerted an emotional attraction, the fact that they were from the island, and that they carried the smell of the sea and the warmth of the sun were decisive in the decision to buy.

Shopping is more of a female pleasure, I think few will deny that. On one of our holidays in Thassos we were joined by a friend, it was the wife's joy to have a shopping companion.

I was just a follower with a camera in hand and had fun photographing the ladies as they struggled to see what was on offer in some shops that probably weren't open, I can't remember if they were.

The ladies were interested in everything from jewelry, clothes, hats, souvenirs, ceramics, paintings, cosmetics..., fortunately (?) but the budget did not allow such extravagances. They were satisfied with finding items to their liking, even if they didn't have enough money to buy them. I'm different, I try not to go into a shop where I know I won't be able to buy something because the price is too high. I prefer not to see it. Instead, I've been drawn to things that are more ephemeral but offer great satisfaction at the moment...

Just the simple choice of these photos has already taken me to the beautiful island, this snowless winter seems easier to bear and I rely on the fact that time passes very quickly. Although so far I've only been to Thassos in September, now I'm running out of patience and I'm aiming to go in June. There are only five months to wait!... but the pessimist in me forces me to fill in... if nothing bad happens by then!

There are only five months to wait!

What bothers me personally is that I spend part of my life waiting for summer while it's winter, as it is now, and the rest I spend dreading winter (during summer). 😄 By the way, Bulgaria once had 4 seasons, very well distinguished from each other, each with its typical, very distinct characteristics. However, in recent years this has changed and now I feel that there are only 2 seasons, or rather, a division of the weather - warm and cold, with the cold weather being longer than the warm.
I have been to Thassos only once, and of course, as part of this warm and quality country, I like it, but I would try to visit more islands.
PS You are not alone in waiting and dreaming 🏖️☀️🌊😊

Thank you! I love to see that there are still dreamers...

In Romania it's the same as in Bulgaria, I mean seasons. Your climate is warmer, with more Mediterranean influences and a much greater sea outlook. I really like the Bulgarian coast. I see you like Burgas. I like it too, but I just crossed it several times going to Sozopol.
It's natural to want to visit several islands, to see the differences and different beauty of each one. I got tired, and missed (passed) the right time for exploration. I'm content to go where I've had a good time, and thankfully, I still have a lot to discover where I've been many times.

This does look like a spectacular trip! I can totally understand the nostalgia of the seasons, I get it whenever winter rolls around myself and each day as it gets colder I say under my breath "when is spring coming? I'm freezing here". I don't think I could survive a climate where it's winter all year round...don't know how people do that.

The trinkets you buy on beautiful trips like that end up having such sentimental value. I have so many memories tied into things I bought when I visited the shores of Madagascar, I get emotional looking at them sometimes.

Thank you! It wasn't just one trip, it was memories of three consecutive trips to the same place that I love and hope to go there again. Until then, you're right, I do look at the items brought back from there and dream... beautiful!

Such a beautiful place 😍.

Thank you!

I remember the pleasure of shopping on holiday when I somehow forgot about the barriers I used to put on my wallet when I was at home.

I feel you😍 The one feels like this only on vacations 🙂 Actually, we save work hard all year for these couple of weeks, aren't we?

You are born for a tropical country )) I am.not sure what is my favorite season. Maybe it was summer when I was a child, but not now. I enjoy winter a lot, I love snow, and frost. The smell in the air in the night, and the sky... Autumn is gorgeous, a lot of possibilities, mild season at seaside, fruits and veggies. And bright colour. But spring is a quite special too... Ah, life is beautiful. Your pictures are so lovely... I miss sea, and summer.
Great post, and sweet memories ❤

Yes, we feel differently on holiday and we behave differently, we try to give ourselves pleasures that we don't really have at home... maybe that's why we love holidays and traveling so much. I am also ashamed to talk about holidays when I know how you are now and how many problems are in front of you. I even saw that today they bombed Kyiv again, I hope it's not something bad.

I still can't believe this is happening and I hope this bad dream will end as soon as possible, unfortunately, it's not a dream at all... you have all my admiration!
I wish you endurance and strength! It is obvious that you have both, I wish you to never lose them.

There were hits in Kyiv, but not as terrible as in the Dnipro. 😨

I am also ashamed to talk about holidays when I know how you are now

You know, I like to read your posts. They always have a message, a problem, and a dream. Posts like yours are my connection with the life that I miss, with normality. I hope that when the war end, I can return to that life. And sometimes, just like you, I still can't believe it's happening.

I saw on the news the tragedy in Dnipro. I saw a woman, probably a mother, cursing the bastards! I cried, really, please believe me.
Thank you for what you said about my posts, I try to do what you say but I don't know if I succeed. Your opinion means a lot to me.
I hope evil does not win but it is treacherous and lacking in humanity. You will probably endure many more such misfortunes before you and the rest of the world can stop it. Then everything will return to normal, you will rebuild a better and more beautiful country and enjoy a good life!

Rescuers already found 30 bodies, and 34 are still missing 🥺🥺🥺

Yes, unfortunately. I see it on the news. Why do people have to die? Why is it accepted that even the military must die? That's an accepted crime. It shouldn't be possible for people to kill other people, other beings.

I totally agree. Sometimes I think about myself... and I cannot imagine what on earth can make me kill someone.🤯🤯🤯 Although, to be honest, sometimes my heart is overwhelmed with anger

Yes, fury! It exists and sometimes it's normal to fight back against harm or injustice. I was thinking about the fact that people find it normal to kill other people, in case of war. Sometimes even when it's not necessary, to kill people who are not a danger... children, old people.

I saw on the news the tragedy in Dnipro. I saw a woman, probably a mother, cursing the bastards! I cried, really, please believe me.

I believe you!.. That's why I can't watch the news, I can only read. I thought 10 months of war would make me less sensitive. But war is a trauma for everyone who sees it.
I went to the cinema for the first time in 10 months, 2 days ago. I really wanted to watch that movie. And you know, I sat with tears in my eyes for almost the entire session, and at the end, I burst into tears. Don't know what other viewers thought. For some, it was just a movie, but for me it was the story of my grandparents, parents, and now mine too.

Thank you so much for our conversation. It's so important to me as well!

I'm glad this conversation is useful. I was held back in my comments thinking you now have other priorities taking up your time. It's hard for someone like me to understand what's going on where you live in wartime conditions. The fact that people go to the cinema is unexpected to me. You see, we weren't used to war, we didn't think it was possible on such a large scale.
I'm so glad you went to the movies, it proves that life, the desire to live freely and happily overcomes brutality and that, surely, even if it will be very hard, good will win. It can't be otherwise. Either good will win or there will be nothing!

Your life, dictated by the hardships you do not say, resembles your life before the war. People want to behave as they did before. I remember seeing a news report that a woman was killed while walking her dog. Walking the dog? I was shocked at first and only then did I understand that people wanted life as before. All people want that and that's the way it's going to happen!

Ah, dogs. They can't sit still for hours, they need walking to do their ... things, and don't care war or not. But they were also scared. I remember 2 elder women with dogs were often with me in a basement.

People just want to live somehow. It is impossible to be constantly afraid or live in a basement for 10 months. Those who were very afraid left. Those who remained adapted. The cinema has a shelter and a generator. If the power is turned off, they turn on generator. An air raid starts - everything stops, everyone goes to shelter. But in fact, a lot of people lost their jobs.

I know how it is with dogs, I've had a few myself. We have to adapt too, humans adapt pretty quickly, and that's good for survival. I forgot about this aspect... I imagine many jobs have disappeared, I wonder how people live without an income. Perhaps there is some help for them?

Thank you, and I wish you a great weekend too!
I'm glad you like Thassos and I'm glad we can go there, maybe next year without being delayed by customs.

Thank you :)
Yes! Also, hopefully the fuel will get cheaper and the ferry prices more affordable, lol.
I usually don't trust the politicians but I really hope both our countries get accepted into Shengen in 2023, as they promised ;)

With prices, I'm not too optimistic, but at least Shengen to be resolved!
