This weekend, we met two forces bigger than us: nature and history.
First up, storm Datragh. Standing on the windy dunes, watching the waves throw a tantrum, it hit me—Mother Nature doesn’t care about your to-do list. She’ll whip up a gale, slap the shore, and leave you staring into the abyss, wondering if you remembered to shut the windows at home. It was raw, wild, and utterly humbling.
Then, on the drive back, a detour led us to another kind of storm: the echoes of World War I. In the Ieper and Diksmuide area, we stopped by the Pax Gate and the Yser Tower, where history looms large and quiet, reminding us of humanity’s own self-inflicted chaos. It’s heavy, but also grounding—proof that storms, whether natural or man-made, shape who we are.
So, here’s to the sea for its wisdom and to history for its lessons. Both will leave you humbled and grateful… and maybe double-checking your life choices.
