NCAA/NFL Football Recap: The playoffs are set and a champion has been crowned!

When you name your kid Stetson Bennett, there is a pretty good chance he is either going to sell cowboy hats or sling a football when he grows up. Lucky us, it was the latter and because of that we got to watch a massacre of a NCAA Football Championship game last night.

If you didn't stay up to watch the game, I don't think too many people were surprised to wake up this morning and see that Georgia beat TCU 65 to 7 to win the national title.

Okay, I take that back... TCU fans might be a little surprised. Michigan fans might be a little shocked too given how close their game was with TCU. Likewise, Ohio State might be a bit taken aback given how close their game was with Georgia.

All that aside, I think everyone knew several weeks ago that Georgia was going to be the team to watch in this game. I had to work late last night, so I was listening to the game on satellite radio on my way home. Even in the first quarter, I could tell which way the momentum was heading in this game.

The Bulldog defense really came through on this one. I mean sure, 65 points is nothing to shake a stick at, but the fact that they held what can be an explosive TCU offense to only 7 points is pretty huge if you ask me.

Honestly, I'm not a Georgia fan or a TCU fan, but I am definitely not an Alabama fan and the fact that they weren't anywhere near the playoffs this year, makes it a really great season for me no matter who won the championship!

Flipping over to the NFL...

Things were pretty set with a few exceptions going into last weekend. One of the big question marks was whether or not the Lions could make it into the playoffs. Unfortunately, in what ended up being a hugely biased game, the Seattle Seahawks were basically handed a win over The Rams by the officials (and Vegas). This all but ensured that the Lions could not make it to the playoffs.

With that in mind, the Lions could have easily dropped their game against Green Bay and taken a better draft position going into next year. However, with a Green Bay win, they would have edged out Seattle and made it into the playoffs.

Detroit wasn't having any of that. If we couldn't go, you can't go either. The Lions beat the Packers 20 to 16 to sweep the season against them and knock them out of playoff contention. That's some grit that Detroit and Michigan should be proud of.

One of the other notable games of the weekend was Houston versus Indianapolis. Houston ended up winning 32 to 31 and with that win took themselves out of the number 1 draft position going into next year.

You've gotta play the game, no matter what next season looks like. If you aren't out there giving it 100% then you shouldn't be on the field. I don't disagree with this win at all even though some critics and fans are questioning the decision.

So, this week is Wildcard weekend. We've got Seattle at San Francisco even though a 49ers/Lions matchup would have been much better. I've gotta go with San Francisco on this one. Just out of spite.

The Chargers take on Jacksonville and I honestly don't know enough about either of these teams to tell you one way or the other who will win.

Miami is facing off against the Bills and I absolutely have to go with the Bills on this one. Likewise, the Giants are going up against the Vikings and in my opinion the Vikings have just been too good this season. I see them coming away with the win.

Baltimore at Cincinnati. Didn't they just play? I honestly don't know, I get a lot of those East Coast teams mixed up sometimes :) I'm going with The Bengals on that one.

Finally, we have Dallas at Tampa Bay. My first question is, how the heck did Tampa Bay make it into the playoffs? I had Brady on my fantasy team this year and I can attest to the fact that he sucks. I'm going to go with the Cowboys on this one, even though I really can't stand either team.

Somewhere in the back of my mind is a voice screaming don't sleep on Brady in the post season... I guess we will see.

There is some speculation that the officials so by default Vegas were gunning for Green Bay to be in the playoffs this season. It was an obvious penalty they had to call that kept that from happening. Honestly, that wouldn't surprise me. There have been some questionable things over the past couple of seasons that for me have clearly pointed to the fact that the league is rigged.

Does that mean I will stop watching? Probably not, but it also means that I will be taking each win and loss with a grain of salt going forward. There are clear favorites in the league and them making as much profit as possible for the NFL is what will always be the bottom line.

Yeah, it was really bad. I knew it would probably be bad, but I don't think I realized it would be that bad. If you look at the breakdown, Georgia just had a really solid game. They averaged like two touchdowns per quarter. That's really balanced.

Hey @enforcer48, here is a little bit of BEER from @isnochys for you. Enjoy it!
