Happy Sunday, crypto enthusiasts!
A couple of years ago, during the Luna crash, I was also very active on the Fantom network. The chain had its ups and downs, but if I remember correctly, some talented people were working there, and Fantom has remained one to keep an eye on.
I just recently learned that Fantom plans to rebrand itself as Sonic, an EVM L1 chain capable of 10,000 transactions per second. The $FTM token will also be renamed and the ticker will be $S with a 1:1 conversion rate to $FTM.
The new chain obviously requires some testing so yes, they now have a free testnet to interact with. Let's find out how.
Sonic Arcade
The first step couldn't be more simple. Head over to Sonic Arcade, enter the invitation code if the platform asks for one(you can use mine: 2ljo4b), then connect your wallet and add the testnet to your web3 wallet.
Next, you need to request some testnet tokens from the faucet. You can only receive 210 tokens/week and use 10 for each game daily.
To acquire some airdrop points, all you need to do is play some very simple arcade games such as Coinflip, Rock, Paper and Scissors, Plinko, and Mines. Now this might feel silly but if you have some time to spare, I'd say it could really be worth it as this particular airdrop is very big - about 200 million $S will be dropped.
Sonic Blaze Testnet
The next step resembles a bit more of a traditional testnet as yesterday Sonic Labs launched their upgraded testnet 2.0 - Blaze.
To interact with it, go to https://blaze.soniclabs.com/, connect, and add Sonic Blaze to your wallet.
Scroll down a bit and request $SONIC, choose different ERC-20 tokens from the dropdown menu, request those, and add them to your wallet. Lastly, swap the tokens and play around with the testnet to record transactions on your account.
At this point, this is all you can do but I'm sure there will be more stuff to do in the future. If not, and the $S is indeed airdropped to the users of these two testnets, then this has to be one of the easiest ones I've ever participated in.
In one of my previous posts I mentioned Mantra's $OM token airdrop which was quite generous. The thing with Mantra that made it a bit different was the fact that the $OM was already launched and I remember reading that when their testnet was first announced, the value of 50M $OM was $100k but has now grown to be worth $170M!
More Speculations
The same thing that happened with Mantra could very well happen with the $S token.
The good thing about the already-established tokens is we know what we are getting, there probably won't be such a huge sell pressure compared to new tokens that might very well take a deep dive straight from the launch.
$FTM is already up ~60% in a month even though the alt season hasn't really started yet. If we add the potentially huge alt-season surge to the mix and the good vibes many have toward Fantom/Sonic, we could have a real winner here.
For those reasons, I wouldn't want to miss these "old coin airdrops" as just like Mantra, they could become the most generous ones in time.
Grass
I know, I've written a LOT about $GRASS but hear me out.
Grass now has its second airdrop season going on and I feel the principles mentioned above with Sonic & Mantra apply to Grass as well. It has already surged from $0.67 to $3.40 in a month and many are waiting for much bigger gains during the next six months.
I have had my Grass node running since the first season but to start now wouldn't be such a bad idea as the second airdrop might happen on the peak of the upcoming alt season making our allocation worth much more...
Grass is the king of passive airdrops and the token is going to ride well with that AI wave currently happening.
That's all for today, have a great rest of the weekend, and thank you for reading!
