Hello everyone, how are you doing on this beautiful day? The week is cruising on and we all are doing our possible best to remain in the best spirits even though the world seems to be going crazy at the moment.
I am here again to talk about another holiday that I feel is important for it to be observed because as always it is something that touches each and every one of us. No matter what you do, no matter your walk in life, you all need to remember all this day entails because it just might save your life one day. And it is World Civil Defense Day.
People in Civil Defense are those who dedicate their lives to saving lives and properties on a daily basis. No, I am not talking about the police or the army, even though they also save lives. I am talking about the unsung heroes in the Fire Department, the paramedics, the people who are called upon when there are emergencies. Today is the day set aside to remember them.
It is to remind us all that honor and prestige can be found in civil defense.
This is also a clarion call for all of us to learn more safety tips that can always come in handy. The safety measures can come in all kinds, it can be tips to make use of when there is a fire outbreak, a car accident, or a drowning. When you learn these things you just don’t get to save yourself. It might come in handy to save someone else.
As a famous quote from Civil Defense Day goes, “we can only hope for the best as long as we are satisfyingly prepared for the worst.” I think that says it all. This momentous day is all about raising awareness of the necessity of always planning ahead.
The observance of this day was first started by the International Civil Defense Organization (I.C.D.O), and they do it every year. It was a tribute of sorts to the national bodies that were responsible for fighting disasters of all kinds that could strike at any time.
The I.C.D.O is an intergovernmental organization that protects lives and properties from natural disasters.
World Civil Defense Day is celebrated on the 1st of March every year, and it is seen as an opportunity to teach people how to protect themselves and their families in the case of an emergency. This is to prepare them for whatever may happen as no one knows tomorrow.
The theme for this year’s observance is “Uniting the world’s leading industry specialists for the safety and security of future generations.”
So, my dear friends, how many safety tips do you know? Do you know how to administer First Aid? Do you know how to perform CPR? Can you diligently give someone mouth-to-mouth? If your answers to these questions are negative, then it is a good chance for you to learn the right way to do these things. You never know when they might come in handy.
Thank you for reading, till we meet in my next post.
