Omo… it is no news that I’m doing my best to enjoy this holiday to the best that I can. Despite the situation of things in the country and how badly the economy has been treating us, I’ve refused to allow it to stop me from having a great time. I’m going out there and enjoying myself.
Of course, having a great time does not come cheap because you’ll have to pay for just about everything. Whether you’re going out or you’re staying in, you’d still have to pay money. Yesterday was Christmas and as I mentioned in my last post, I didn’t go anywhere. I spent the entire day indoors with my family. Yet, I still spent money! I had to buy fuel to power my generator because NEPA was moving funny yesterday.
So then, how do I keep all the spending in check? How do I make sure that I don’t go overboard with my fun so that I don’t send myself into ruin when January rolls around? We all know how tough the first month of the year can be, and if we’re not careful in December, we can have a terrible January that would dictate the rest of the year for us.
One of the first decisions I made this year was to only flex myself! No Father Christmas for me! No dates and no funny business. This is Christmas and thus, it’s my Stingy Men Association era. When I go to the cinema, I go alone. Anyone who goes with me will pay for their own tickets and their transportation. I’m not in the mood to be flexing anyone at all.
This is not the first time I’ve done such a thing, going to the cinema alone. I’ve never really been able to see it as a romantic destination because I can’t speak when the movie is going on. Even if you speak to me, I would ignore you. I hate watching movies with distractions. So, I always prefer to go to the cinema alone, because it’s solely for my enjoyment.
Another thing I’m doing is making sure that I’m not doing more than my capability. Everything I’m doing this season is well within budget. I have major projects that are lined up for next year and the last thing I need is money to stop me from achieving them. So, I’m strictly flexing on a tight budget. Once I find that something is more expensive than I envisioned it to be, I simply run away. No time!
This is the season of love and sharing, and I’m trying to do that as best as I can. However, I’m not going to be a fool about it. I’m only giving out to people who need the help and not those who only demand money from me simply because they stumble into me on the road or they want to smoke loudly. There’s no unnecessary spending to be done here and I’m keeping it as tight as I possibly can.
Of course, even with the best-laid plans, unexpected expenses would still come up, however, I’m not fazed. I’ve already had to fix my generator twice in the past week, I also had to buy some appliances that got spoilt and had to be changed. These are unexpected bills that I had no choice but to pay. Still, regardless of it all, I’m okay with the way the season is going. I’m very intentional about what I want from this season and how I want to spend my money.
I’m sure that if I keep this up, I will be able to detty this December and still have enough to guide me in January. Smart move!
