When it comes to finding true happiness, it can be ridiculously easy finding it for some people, and it can be an uphill task for others. Some people only need those around them to be happy for them to be happy as well, once something goes wrong and they’re not happy, they lose that immediately. And then, there are those whose happiness comes from what they personally achieve or do themselves. We all are built differently, that’s why what makes us happy varies from person to person.
And then, finding it is not the only thing we have to do. We also have to learn the art of keeping it. Some of us may be happy and after a while, make silly mistakes that will cost us our happiness. Like a person claiming to love their spouse, but at the first opportunity, goes ahead to cheat. When caught, they put it down as the devil’s fault. We just have to be careful so that no matter what hits us, we would never subconsciously sabotage our own happiness when saddled with the issues of life.
As for me, what makes me truly happy? Thankfully, it’s not just one thing. A number of things make me happy and fulfilled, and I can bask in that euphoria all day long anytime it happens.
Being with Family.
They are my favorite people in the world, so why won’t I love being with them? Whenever we meet, it’s always this mixture of fun and serious talks. This is something we don’t do too often because life has spread us across the country, but whenever we do meet under the same roof, it’s always a banger. We can spend hours together talking about nothing at all or talking about things that will move the family forward.
And should I talk about the food? My Mom is the best cook in the world, and I’m second only to her. Eating as a family will always beat eating alone; anytime and any day. I’ve been eating alone, and I’ve eaten with family and I can tell you that the latter beats the former hands down. I’m sure there’re those who can testify to this.
Sadly though, such meetings don’t really happen because everyone is still trying to build themselves. Now, we all meet up at least once a year, and I really hope that it increases over time. Because it won’t make sense at all for all of us to make money but we’ll be too busy and occupied to spend time with our family.
Doing what makes me happy.
This should be a no-brainer, right? Well, you’ll be surprised at how many people don’t really subscribe to this. Either intentionally or just life being mean to them. True happiness for me is basically doing what makes me happy, and doing what makes me happy is me doing what I want when I want and without any outside influence.
I want to work, but only because I’m bored and I want to; not because I have to work. I want to see movies and go out and have some fun, even on a Monday morning! I’m not looking to be filthy rich, but I sure as hell want to be able to afford whatever kind of lifestyle I want. If I want a private jet to fly into another country, then I’ll easily do that. Meanwhile, I still want to be able to walk on the street without having to look over my shoulders for any reason whatsoever.
Like I said, I just want to do what I want.
Sadly though, such a lifestyle is actually expensive. While I enjoy what I do, there I days I just want to sleep in and wake up by two in the afternoon. But I remember I have clients who have paid me and are counting on me to deliver, so I push myself up and still give them my best. And at this point, quitting work won’t even make me happy because it’ll only render me broke which is something I don’t want at all. The exact opposite of happiness, if you ask me.
Anyway, what can we do? I do know that I have my vision for my life, and I’m committed to pushing myself in that direction. For now, I’m happy doing the work I love and using it to set myself up. And as I keep moving forward, I’m certain more reasons to be happy will keep coming up. Seeing how pro-happiness I am, I’m sure they’ll fall right into my lane.
