I try to take a couple of vacations every year. One usually involves camping in summer, and some sort of trip with my parents around September. With kids in the mix, it's challenging and never 100% restful and relaxing. I have nobody to blame for that but myself.
Since kids, I've learned that you really need a second vacation. One that lasts 2-4 days after you return home from your initial vacation.

While it may seem crazy, there are things that have to be addressed when you return.
Unless you simply bought new clothes while out of town and threw them away after a day or two, then there is laundry to catch up on.
Unless your house was immaculate when you left, there's still likely some tidying up left.
If you have a pet you couldn't take with you, then you'll need to pick them up from whoever is caring for them and bring them home. They'll likely be starved for attention.
You'll probably need to put together a grocery list and restock your fridge and pantry.
My vacation was extra hectic. The kids were cranky on the drive up and back down from camping. I managed to crack the screen on my phone. My car was due in the shop for maintenance yesterday morning. My wife scheduled a pool play date yesterday, and I had to drop into the cell phone repair shop to get a new screen ordered.
At the rate things are going, I feel like I need a whole week off after any future vacation, with all of the ridiculous shenanigans that culminate in having to take 2-3 days off to deal wirh extra trips and appointments. Hopefully the September vacation has a lot fewer shenanigans and more rest and relaxation time. 🤞
