Dappled
Style: paper cutout
App: Sketchbook
Device: mobile phone
Hello my creative friends,
This digital art is my attempt to interpret the drawing prompt Dappled. This is from a list made by @london65 under the theme of Pine Forest. The other day I tried another prompt from the same list and it is called Coniferous. The prompts and theme are quite interesting for me to participate in a drawing challenge after a long break. I am using this style that looks like papers cut outs with scratchy effects on the objects. I haven't done this in a while 😭😭😭 but I think I love the result
Here are some progress photos
Dappled is quite a challenging prompt to depict. I think you can be detailed or not depending on how well you interpret it. To start I scribbled this forest scene with big trees. The dappled idea will come later when I add finishing touches. These are the interplay of light and shadow like how the sun rays create shadows and speckles of light on the forest floor.
This is the part where I tried to use the paper cut out style. I begin by forming some chunky tree shapes and filling them with scratch effects as I go along this doesn't have to be detailed as I will be erasing the edges with a sharp eraser brush to achieve the cut out effect.
Additional details to complete the pine forest theme are starting to take shape like this blue bush. Why blue? Well I try to use unexpected colors and shades for this particular drawing style. Choosing the number of colors and making sure they work with each other is not that easy for me though 😔😔😔.
This is a last minute edit I have hidden most of the details to show you the glaring effects of the sun or it could be the moon 🌝🌝🌝🌝 Notice that I made it bigger than the first edit. It was a big debate for me kept changing the size as I went along
The dappled effect on the forest floor is happening here and in the image above.
This image is supposed to be the finished product but I thought that the dappled effect is not yet achieved. I kept switching the positions of the objects and changing their sizes. Before I get dizzy and frustrated I decided to put it to rest and went back to it a few minutes later.
Thank you for dropping by hope you like my art.
Cheers,
Krisette
