My childhood was filled with more play than anything else. I loved playing more than my mother would like and this was a very big issue for the both of us. As a girl child, I had responsibilities that I needed to learn right from a young age. My mother was ready to teach me but I was not willing to learn.
I had the horrible habit of neglecting my house chores and going out to play instead. I would go out clean and come home dirty. My mother would get so mad at me because she knows that my play clothes will not be washed by lazy me because if she leaves it to me to wash my clothes, I would soak them for an entire lifetime.

My mother would nag and sometimes beat me to act like a girl and learn what was necessary as a woman but as the werey I be, I no gree hear word. I had 8 older sisters which was a bonus for me. My sisters were kinda like my own personal maids who did the chores I couldn't do for myself. life was rosy and sweet until my mom got fed up with my antics and decided to take matters into her own hands.

Back then, my mother had a Nokia phone that was black and white. The phone screen had no colour except those two and if the phone rang, you can hear the sound all the way from another country. This phone was the iphone of it's time.
There was only one entertainment that phone offered and that was the snake game(I can't really remember the name of the game lol).

My sisters and I would carry my mother's international iphone and play this game until my mother would complain because she couldn't find her phone. The funny thing about this phone was that the battery never died😂😂.
While I was thinking of how to beat the high score in the game, my very Nigerian mother was cooking up a plan for me.

It was a Saturday afternoon during the third term holiday. My mother called me into her room. I was a little bit frightened because she wasn't smiling when she called me, but I wasn't as frightened as I would have been if it was my dad.
My mother held my hands together as if she wanted to force me to pray and that was when I knew I had messed up. My fear had sky rocketed to the heavens. When I thought she was going to bring out a cane, instead she brought out her international iphone.

" If you can wash all you're dirty clothes throughout this month I will buy you you're own phone".

The moment I heard those words my joy was heaven sent. I kept thinking about having my own phone and all the endless games I would play. My joy continued and I didn't even realize when I had started watching my clothes every weekend.
The first week I washed my clothes by myself, my mother gave me her own phone to use. I was so happy because that single act had convinced me that she would really get me own phone. I had more confidence and belief in my mother's words until every weekend I was doing all my chores.

My dear brothers and sisters, it has been more than ten years and even ordinary phone packet sef I Neva see. I don't even know what made me believe her to begin with when my older sisters did not even have a phone😂😂.
One of the best things about being a child is that we can believe anything as long as you convince us enough

A child that says his mother rest will definitely not rest too and mom just showed how smart she was.

She made you wash your clothes in exchange for the Nokia phone and that was really good because today, you can do your laundry yourself...

Thank God she did what she did, because if she hadn't, only God knows how I would've been handling my clothes lol.
