Hello All! It has been far too long since I have wrote a post on Cine TV because I spend all of my time reading everyone else's posts. 😄
I have always been enamored with stories that make you feel some sympathy with the villain in the story. I actually tried to write my own short story about just such a concept, but no one will ever read that because I think I wrote it in High School. The reason I enjoy the concept is because I usually don't associate with the "sympathy for the Devil" line of thinking but when I watch a film and enjoy the character it really sticks with me.
My best friend and roommate in college and I had the movie "Blue Streak" always in the VCR and probably watched it at least 100 times. Every time I go and visit him out of state, it is our habit to watch it. The movie holds a special place in my heart and the main character, Miles Logan played by Martin Lawrence is a very lovable villain (to be fair he isn't the main villain of the film!).
When the movie begins we see Miles as a thief, running with a crew of criminals working to steal a very large diamond. Of course he is a criminal but his demeanor is fun and laid back. When things don't go as planned and one of the people in his group turns on him, he is forced to hide the diamond in a building under construction to hopefully come back for it later. He goes to jail and when he gets out, he goes to look for the diamond and the building he hid the diamond in is the new Police station.
This sets up a hilarious plot where Miles has to pretend to be a police officer in order to get in the building to retrieve the diamond. I won't ruin the fun of the movie but Martin Lawrence does a great job in making Miles funny and lovable with one-liners and costumes. One of the funniest is the pizza delivery guy seen below.
Now let me get to why Miles Logan from "Blue Streak" is my favorite villain by answering my own questions from the contest:
What about this character made you choose them? First off, I love his sense of humor and the way he goes about his life. While I don't appreciate stealing, he continually helps his friend and he tries to help his temporary police partner gain confidence. I feel like he is just a very relatable character all around.
**What did they do in the film or films that drew to this character? **
The writers of this movie did an amazing job making you care about Miles and his goal of finding the diamond by making an even worse villain in the film. Despite being a thief, a liar and eventually a murderer; you still find yourself rooting for him and his journey. You can tell that he cares for his friend, Tulley and his police partner, Carlson.
Would you want to be in a movie with them or know them in real life?
I would most definitely want to hang out with Miles Logan. He's hilarious and not necessarily a bad person but someone that made some bad choices.
If you haven't seen this movie, I would highly recommend it. There are some very memorable and hilarious moments in this film. I know I will be watching it again when I visit my friend. :)
Thanks for reading!
