TEXT: Job 8: 8 - 15
TEXT FOCUS: "Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless. ". (v. 13)
📃 ✒️ Papyrus and reed are marsh or water plants, abundant in Egypt in ancient times. The papyrus grows in the swamps of Egypt or else in the sluggish waters of the Nile where they have overflowed and lie stagnant in pools not more than three feet in depth. Wherever you see reeds growing you may be sure that the soil is full of water. However, if the farmer drains the field where reeds grow, they soon disappear.
📃✒️ Plant needs water because it forms the sap which circulates through its veins. The reed cannot exist without water, even for the shortest period. As it requires water for its life, so also man can only live by the favour of God (Jer. 17:7,8). Man's natural life is like that of the reed that grows in the water, if it does not have water, it withers and dies (vs.1 1-13).
📃✒️ Human can do nothing without Christ; he is like the reed without the water in which it grows, dry, withered and dead. He is such a hopeless being. With Christ, man is like the reed with its root in the river; he will flourish and grow in holiness whose end is everlasting life.
