I must admit that I tend to forget things quite a lot. Maybe it's old age yunno. Don't laugh at me, please. Even trying to recall events when I forgot some important detail as this prompt asks, I seem to have forgotten, too.
Well, I managed to recall one somehow and that's the one I would be sharing. Forgetfulness can put us in bad positions especially when the said detail is one that is tied to some important factor.

This happened a few years back, when I was yet writing exams and seeking admission into the higher institution. In October that year, I was to sit for my post utme examination. Earlier, I think it was in July or thereabouts, I had gone in for my registration.
So, when the d-day came, I got ready, got my stuff and left the house so I would arrive in time for my exam which was scheduled to hold at 11am. I left at around nine that morning because my house was quite a distance. If we factored in the number of buses that I'd jump to get there(not to mention waiting for a bus to get full or the number of stops the driver would take), plus the state of the road, plus traffic, and other circumstances, it takes about an hour and thirty minutes to get there. Did I mention that I have to jump four buses in total? Okay, yeah, that too.
So, I got there, and aspirants were already in a queue and being directed into the hall and their positions. I didn't join the line immediately. I had my entrance slip, but it wasn't stamped, and there was no way that I could have gone in without one that was stamped. Of course, I did my registration. I just did not go for the biometrics verification. I couldn't make it then cause every time I called there, there was never a network, and I couldn't afford to make that trip, pay that amount in fare to return back with success.
Well, I must say that what gave me that leverage was that we sort of have an insider, a friend to one of my siblings. A colleague somewhat. Anyways, she had asked me to forget about coming for the verification and just show up with the entrance slip, and that's all.
Anyway, I rushed over to her office, and she asked for the slip that I gave her. Only for her to open it up and tell me it wasn't it. Apparently, I had forgotten it. There were two of them, and I had only gone with the one, which wasn't the actual one. Truthfully, I thought I had folded them in together. It only occurred to me that when I switched bags that morning, I had left it on my bed.
I panicked(not so much, i wouldn't lie). I was quite confident that she would do something. She looked from me to the paper and just laughed.
Well, she took what I came with, went out of her office, and returned shortly with it. Stamped. I left my bag and phone in her office and hurried out to my exams. On the line, some persons who saw my entry slip asked why mine was different from all their own and how it got stamped. Somebody even chipped that I wouldn't be let in.
I don't do much explaining. I only shrugged and tried to suppress my confidence waited for the moment. Well, I got in amidst raised eyebrows. A couple of the tech guys cum exam officers already knew me as the lady's sister. I've had to enjoy a number of privileges a number of times If not every single time that I was there.
I derail
Well, I kept thinking that what if I didn't have someone there who would come to my aid, how would I have made it through that day?
One thing for certain, it would be by luck and so much pleading(if I made it back in time) that I would be able to go home and get back before the entire exams for the day is over. Certainly, my own time schedule would have elapsed. I may have had to forfeit wroting the exam that year and would've misses out on my admission. It's a little rufflubg to imagine now.
I don't know how I would have felt and what would have been my fate but I was very grateful for that benefit.
Thanks for gracing this post.
Greetings!
