To Be or Not To be...A Fool that is

I was on my way home browsing my social media when I saw this advert on Facebook.
The 2-3 online working hours per day, flexibility, and ability to work during downtime are what caught my attention. I pondered, "Sure, why not." So, I tapped on it and it immediately pointed me to Whats app. I then questioned and requested more information. Then a woman called Amanda helped me and explained that it was a freelance job where the main way to get paid was by creating virtual orders to advertise homestays. She stated that the business, Deren Marketing, works with Airbnb homestay hosts to market homestay. She continued by stating that they are a Singapore-based network operation promotion business.

When I questioned her nicely for more explanation because I didn't understand it right away, she politely clarified what she meant.

I told her I was interested after she probed for more information about my age, nationality, and preferred way to address me. I did tell her my nationality and age but not my real name. Amanda was friendly and polite and I honestly hoped this was a real job where I would actually get paid. The additional money would come in handy!

Carrying on, she then gave me a link ( https://www.impact-hd.com/ ) to the job platform, where I would need to create an account and enter the invitation code she had provided. She then gave me the go-ahead to finish registering and give her my invitation code. The next step was for me to sign into her account to "experience it" by entering those 36 pieces of data virtually, becoming more acquainted with it, and earning a 25% commission that would go to my account.

She proceeded to show my commission, which is 50.77 SGD, after entering the 36 data. I was thrilled. Who wouldn't, really? But there was a voice in the back of my mind saying, "Uh oh, watch out and wait something's quite off." Then Amanda sent me the data price and fees as we continued. I initially did not understand it, so I disregarded that part and asked her what to do next. I wanted to see how this would play out because I was both intrigued and thrilled at the same time.

Next, she instructed me to send 36 more data using my own account, which I did. In the midst of getting on it, my account froze and says there are outstanding orders and that I don't have an insufficient balance. She said it is a good sign as outstanding orders mean triple commission. Just WOW, huh? She then instructed me to contact customer support via Telegram to recharge. I could already sense the start of my dismay at this point but of course I shrugged it off and kept going.

I did as I was told, and there it was. It was disappointing as I had a flicker of hope. I screenshotted and sent it to Amanda and asked her if it really meant for me to send my own money, from my own pocket to which she replied with a yes. I was actually hoping she would say to deposit the commission (I earned from her). She wanted me to transfer 55.87 SGD to that account in order to proceed, and once everything is finished, I will receive three times that amount, or 167.61 SGD. She also promised to show me how to withdraw as soon as I paid the amount stated. It was enticing, to be honest. But you see, this isn't the first time I've been tricked. I have lost $ before not thousands though or even half a thousand but still it's my hard-earned money so I literally cried. LOL.

In the end, since Amanda was polite, I did tell her politely too that I refuse to keep going as I don't have the money ( even If I have ). I also told her that I am seriously looking for an extra job where I get paid not the other way around in order for me to get paid. And you know what? I even said 'Thank you for your time'. How cool was I? LMAO

Do you think it is too good to be true and I did the right thing?
Or should I kept going, finding out if my money did get triple/more or flew by?

Thanks for reading.

Really? It wasn't that obvious to me from start. only thought of it when they asked me for my own money na. LOL

Glad you understood that it was a scam. They are getting more sophisticated these days sadly. You should report that to the government authorities in your area because they are scamming people.

Definitely "too good to be true"; if you have to up-front walk away..
So, well done.
