Wednesday Walk: Plaza Grau El Callao and surrounding 🇵🇪 [Eng/Spa]

The first Wednesday walk of the year begins here, in front of the Fortaleza Real Felipe.

It is a military architectural complex of defensive type, built in the Bay of Callao to repel attacks of pirates and corsairs.

It dates from the 17th century and is currently a museum. I will visit it soon and bring you pictures! Stay tuned!

! [SPANISH]La primera caminata de Miércoles del año comienza aquí, frente a la Fortaleza Real Felipe.
Se trata de un complejo arquitectónico militar de tipo defensivo, construído en la Bahía del Callao para repeler ataques de piratas y corsarios.
Data del siglo XVII y actualmente es un museo. Lo visitaré pronto y les traeré fotos! Estén atentos!

Walking towards Plaza Grau we find a lot of urban art, graffiti alluding to exponents of Salsa. Salsa music is very popular in these areas of Lima.

In fact, right in front of where I live there is a huge graffiti with several well-known exponents such as Héctor Lavoe, Maelo Rivera or Rubén Blades.

The first thing that caught my attention when I was arriving at the square was to see the Port of Callao just to the right, it is huge and there are many containers and cranes.

It is incredible to think that the vast majority of the products consumed in Lima and surroundings enter through this port, its proportions are colossal.

! [SPANISH]Caminando hacia la Plaza Grau nos encontramos con bastante arte urbano, grafities alusivos a exponentes de Salsa. La música salsa es muy escuchada en estas zonas de Lima. De hecho, justo frente al lugar donde vivo hay un grafitie enorme con varios exponentes conocidos como Héctor Lavoe, Maelo Rivera o Rubén Blades.
Lo primero que llamó mi atención al estar llegando a la plaza fue ver el Puerto del Callao justo a la derecha, es inmenso y hay muchisimos contenedores y gruas.
Es increíble pensar que lal GRAN mayoría de los productos que se consumen en Lima y alrededores entran por este puerto, sus proporciones son colosales.

Already in the place we can see the sea at the foot of the square, that is very nice although on this occasion there was high tide and it was not allowed to approach the edge. I would have liked to take some pictures of the fishing boats.

The square is wide, surrounded by palm trees and with a sculpture in the middle of Miguel Grau, a prominent Peruvian politician and military man who became Grand Admiral of the Peruvian navy.

He is an outstanding character of Peruvian history.
When we go to the naval museum I will surely learn much more about him.

! [SPANISH]Ya en el lugar podemos ver el mar al pié de la plaza, eso es muy bonito aunque en esta ocasión había marea alta y no estaba permitido acercarse al borde. Me hubiera gustado hacer unas fotos a los barquitos pesqueros.
La plaza es amplia, rodeada de palmeras y con una escultura en el medio de Miguel Grau, un destacado político y Militar del Perú que llegó a ser Gran Almirante de la marina de guerra del Perú.
Es un personaje destacado de la historia peruana. Cuando vayamos al museo naval seguro aprenderé mucho más de él.

Have I already told you that I'm a big fan of urban art? I think what I enjoy the most when I get to know new streets and places, besides the unique views, is to enjoy the different samples of art in the streets.

I think that urbanism should always take into account the artistic part inherent in human beings. And take advantage of local talent to beautify places creating a better environment.

It is difficult to get urban areas friendly to walk and to the eye in these big cities.

We also appreciate the Iglesia Matriz, the Cathedral of Callao where Nuestra Señora del Carmen de La Legua is currently located. It is an important Cathedral for people of faith.

! [SPANISH]¿Ya les dije que soy gran fan del arte urbano? Creo que lo que más disfruto conociendo calles y lugares nuevos además de las vistas únicas, es disfrutar de las diferentes muestras de arte que hay en las calles. Pienso que el urbanismo siempre debe tomar en cuenta la parte artística inherente en el ser humano. Y aprovechar el talento local para embellecer lugares creando un mejor ambiente. Es difícil conseguir areas urbanas amigables al caminar y a la vista en estas ciudades grandes.
Apreciamos también la Iglesia Matriz, es la Catedral del Callao donde actualmente se encuentra Nuestra Señora del Carmen de La Legua. Es una Catedral importante para las personas de Fé.

Looking at murals and murals we stumbled upon a museum that turned out to be the well known Ronald House. One of the first buildings of this style in the city, it has a very interesting history and is now an amazing house museum.

Mirando murales y murales tropezamos con un museo que resultó ser la conocida Casa Ronald. Una de las primeras edificaciones de este estilo en la ciudad, tiene una historia bien interesante y actualmente es una casa museo increíble.
