Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about using up the things we've got around the house!

Dwindle The Supply

It's a great idea to get things stashed away for the future.. but there are limits!

One of the things I've been doing in the last few months is I've really started to spend time consuming the stuff in the house! We've stocked up quite a bit of food and medicines over time which is good because you need it at the time, but long-term it's actually not a great idea to keep on adding and adding without using up what you've got. Between the both of us, we've been trying to get everything used up!

When things hit the fan back in the start of 2020, one of the things we knew we needed to do was start stocking up on the things in the house. Between foods, vitamins and various herbal medicines we established quite a collection! Eventually though, food does expire as does medicine or herbs so one of the important things to do is make sure that you are also using the things you are stocking up on, otherwise you are throwing away quite a bit of money!

The financial factor is certainly one of them for me, but as well it's important to get in the habit of only buying things that you really need otherwise you end up loading up on shit that you will just end up throwing away. I can certainly get grabbing some specific herb or vitamin to address a specific scenario you are undergoing, but the important thing is to try and use that stuff up after a while otherwise you bought something and it will go partially wasted.

Between the various snacks that we loaded up on.. and the other food items in the cabinet, I've been eating quite the varied diet.. not that I really love the stuff I'm eating but I'm also making sure that we don't buy the same shit again if it didn't get consumed before. It's silly to buy more of something because I just finished eating it. If I wanted it, we would've eaten it faster!

The vitamins are where things are really making progress. Not that we need to be taking all kinds of vitamins in a day, but consuming through the stuff we've got is a pretty good thing. We've got various herbal tinctures and stuff that were grabbed for many reasons but ended up not getting used. I started on the tinctures first and thankfully I am almost all done with those. Then I've moved onto the vitamins that would apply for me such as taking all of the vitamin K we've got (good for blood vessels!) among many other things like multi's, magnesium, and several more.

The important thing with all of this is to not overdo it. When taking vitamins especially, you only want to take the recommended daily dose otherwise you can run the risk of adverse events in the future. I've been making sure to only take what is recommended on the bottles so that I can just wittle through it. With the food, since a lot of it is snack related, I've also been trying to limit that to only per day since it's usually not got the best ingredients in it. Granted it's not twinkies or shit like that, but just organic potato chips or some shit. Not the worst, but also not the best.

What about you, have you tried to make sure to consume the things that you've got in the house? Let me know in the comments!

I think that's a great attitude to take with perishable items. Some of us, myself included, have been wired to stock up on reserves for at least 6 months or so. But if the situation is that this reserve isn't consumed within this time frame, then it makes no sense to add more to it, even if the item may be hard to find in the near future.

I actually find it quite therapeutic to be consuming stuff within the house, because the lesser items there are, the lesser effort to track stuff like expiry dates and stuff. Hehe!
