Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to finish off the icy lake post!
Wednesday Walk Icy Lake
Last week I shared the first part of the Icy Lake here, and I wanted to share the other chunk of the pictures! I try to confine the post to 4 or 5 images max and when I get a bunch like I did with this one, I figured why not split them into two?!
When the little man and I were out recently, we stopped by a lake that we will definitely be back in, in the spring and summer for some fishing and hiking. The place has giant pine trees and all kinds of other trees all over the place which is nice. It makes for a nice quiet walk, as the trees are blocking and absorbing all of the road noise from nearby. I always appreciate the forests for that type of stuff, it's good to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities and enjoy some time out in the forest.
This place also had some random things around it lol like this. I'm not exactly sure what the point of this type of dock is, sitting in the middle of the brush at this point and not really serving much of a purpose or a view but it was out there. My son enjoyed it though, he got to get up and get a decent view of the surroundings since he's a little vertically challenged, or so he thinks. For his age, he's a lot taller than most of the kids and he doesn't quite get that yet lol but one day he will.
This place was really nice and calm! I really liked the sandy shore of the place, as it means that it's kept pretty well. I wonder how much the water level is going to change between now and the spring and summer. The shore here wasn't very deep and that's good because if we can come back here, it would be a lot of fun to use our waders and get out there in the shallows in the sand! I would love to give this one a good walk around if we could but the day here was quite nice. There wasn't a lot of wind and the water here looks like a sheet of glass which was really interesting. I would have thought there would have been a lot of wind across the open water like that.
I love the up-close perspectives like this! It is cool to get down to the shoreline and see how the opposite shore looks. I am curious to look this place up again when I can remember, not at the moment since I'm trying to finish writing this post before going to bed lol but I want to see if they allow boats on this lake. It would be pretty cool to bring a canoe or kayak on this and paddle around. Unlike many of the other lakes and ponds in the region, this one seems to have a very nice and walkable shoreline which I really enjoyed. It's difficult when the places have very challenging shores but I guess those types of places are better for boaters and maybe the landscape.
At any rate though, this place ended up being bigger than I thought it was which is always nice. I would love to try and walk around the whole thing if I can convince my son to spend that much time doing it lol. We would certainly need to bring quite a bit of snacks for that!
There's one thing my son loves and that's a campfire. He wanted to hang out here and light the fire which I almost agreed to except I didn't know if we would be allowed to during off seasons or different times of the year. I will have to look this area up and what you have to do in order to be able to light a fire. Some places ask that you purchase a burn permit so that you can contribute a little bit of money to them and they will let you light fires. That isn't in all places though which is good but I will have to figure that out. These types of outdoor fire pits are really nice to hang out by! Sitting in the woods among these giant trees and enjoying a nice fire is pretty relaxing. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed one, so I might have to indulge my son in the experience!
