2014 $5 Gold American Eagle

in #hive-1679222 years ago

This little beauty is my first and only gold coin that I ever purchased to date. I latched onto it a couple years ago and have to admit, paid more than what it was worth at the time.

This issue of the American Eagles were first minted in 1986. This particular denomination of the Gold Eagle is the smallest gold bullion coin issued from the U.S. Mint with regards to size.

OBVERSE
obverse.JPG

The obverse has the likeness of the infamous striding Liberty design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens that is most noted on the $20 Gold Double Eagles that were minted from 1907 through 1933.

REVERSE
reverse.JPG

The reverse of the coin shos a family of eagles around a nest with another eagle approaching the nest. The design is by Miley Busiek.

The coin has a reeded edge, weighs 3.393grams, thickness of 1.26mm, and is 16.5mm in diameter.

The uncirculated versions of these are common. The one exception may be the 199-W which was made from unpolished proof dies and only 14,500 were minted. They now trade at a premium.

Now that is a beauty right there. OMG!!!!!!

It's my favorite. Went to my LCS for a gold bar and he's like, well this is all I have and he let it go for spot, that was a few years ago. I'm excited that it will be officially an antique coin at 100 years old next year.

For spot? That is wild!

yeah, didn't take me long to jump on that bandwagon. I used to go there a lot. Not so much these days since everything is almost twice the price now.

A beautiful piece and Lady Liberty is literally a beauty. It's so cool that you have it in your collection.❤️

Thank you. It is one of my favorites.

I see why :)

Happy new week

As per "my version" of the coming U.S. Monetary Correction, you'll be able to Exchange your 1/10 ounce $5 Gold Coin for a Corrected 1/10 ounce, $10 "Collector" Gold Coin... The $10 Gold "Collector" Coin will have the "Spending Power" of 1,000 of today's Fiat USD's, including a built in Collectors Premium...

Guess I will be in good shape then.

It's why I figure everything being sold by the U.S. Mint is on sale...

Gold eagles are the best eagles 💕

Yes, I jusst wish I could afford more.

That's a beautiful gold coin not surprised you paid a lot that's how it is with fractional gold

Thanks. Hopefully after I am dead my kids decide to sell it they can at least get what I paid for it.

I love the Saint-Gaudens design! Always been one of my favorites and the fractional gold makes it much easier for beginners. Great little coin over all, thanks for sharing!

YEs, the 1/10th is good for peeps like me. I may start saving for a larger piece down the road.

Gold is expensive to pick up an ounce anymore!

It sure is. I may need to just sock away some money for a while...or stick to silver and traditional coins that are non-Gold.

A few years ago? But you're sitting pretty now. I don't have one yet as I hope to acquire at least one for my gold stack. I had an opportunity at my local coin shop but it was very well circulated coin.

Keep on Stacking @coinjoe

I am stacking hard right now. You all are rubbing off on me too much.😀

That is absolutely gorgeous and I love gold mining however I would really like to have one of the original $20 gold eagles from the Idaho City mint. That is definitely on my bucket list.
