The Hive borehole has emerged as a life-saving solution, effectively addressing the water-related challenges that communities have been facing, while also showcasing the practical methods through which Hive is addressing real-world issues. In this post, we will provide an update on the ongoing Hive project located in the Northern part of Ghana. As mentioned earlier , our project commenced with a community visit and engagement. Subsequently, we conducted a land survey to identify the most suitable location for the drilling and construction activities.
After a thorough series of checks and surveys, the drilling company was able to determine three optimal spots for the project. Yesterday, we initiated the ground-breaking phase, which marks the beginning of Phase 1. The primary focus of this phase is on drilling, pump installation and testing, water testing, and treatment.
The drilling company commenced their work in the afternoon and successfully drilled approximately 100 meters. They continued their work today with the drilling and finally they were complete entire drilling process. We were indeed impressed with their work and the substantial progress made thus far.
In the Northern Region of Ghana, where rainfall is minimal, a specialized drilling machine proves indispensable for digging deep into the ground. This powerful machine is specifically designed and can handle the challenges posed in areas where there are hard rock formations.
The drilling company utilized this well-suited equipment, working tirelessly until they finally hit water. It was an exhilarating moment when water began gushing out of the hole they had created. This achievement now brings so much hope and the promise of a vital resource to the Chanshegu community.
The quantity of water obtained immediately after drilling a borehole can vary depending on various factors associated with the geological and hydrological conditions of the area. The Northern region differs significantly from the Ashanti Region, where a substantial amount of water can be obtained on the same day.
According to the expertise of the drillers, the entire drilling process would typically take three to four days to complete. Now that the drilling phase is finished, the drillers will allow the water to settle before proceeding with mechanization.
Their next task involves conducting a water quality test to ensure that the water is safe and meets the required standards for various purposes, including drinking. The final step is the pump test, where the pumps and their functionality are evaluated at different flow rates to match the water level in the borehole.
The successful completion of the entire project would bring immense joy to the expectant residents of Chanshegu town. We are diligently working to ensure that all aspects of the project are executed professionally, aiming to make a significant impact in the community.
Chanshegu is a beautiful community, characterized by traditional housing styles commonly found in the Northern Region, Ghana. Many houses are constructed using mud or bricks, with roofs made of grass or straw. The main challenge faced by the town is the lack of access to potable water.
The Hive borehole has become a lifesaver and will help alleviate the water-related difficulties that the community has been facing. During the ongoing work, some community members have visited the project site, and the news of the project has brought great joy to the town.
Once all the aforementioned tasks have been completed by the drilling company, we anticipate moving forward to the next phase of the construction work. We will ensure that the Hive community is regularly updated on any new developments regarding the project. Based on our projected timeline, and assuming no unforeseen circumstances, we expect the project to be completed within a three-week timeframe.
The commendable execution of this remarkable work has been made possible by the efforts of @mcsamm, myself, and our project supervisors @depressedfuckup and @samed10 in the Northern Region. We express our gratitude to them for their instrumental contributions and effective teamwork, as we strive to create another meaningful impact with the Hive project. We are also immensely grateful to @valueplan and all those who have supported us in various ways. Thank you for your time and attention.
