Its never too late

Ladi is a vibrant young lady who is in her final year at the university, she has always been at the top of her class, and her family has been so proud of her, but Ladi has a bad habit of procrastinating.

Whenever Ladi wakes up in the morning, she writes out her routine for the day and pastes it behind her bedside, turns to the other side of her bed, and picks up her phone straight to social media.

The moment Ladi goes online, she forgets everything that she has to do for the day; by the time she realizes herself, it's neither already too late nor about to. She has promised her mother that she will visit the dentist for her tooth problem.

Her mother, Madam Alice, had made arrangements with the doctor for Ladi to visit the clinic, but just 39 minutes before the time, Ladi called to say she was busy and wasn't going to make it.

Ladi kept postponing her appointment until her mother gave up. Ladi's constant procrastination habit is not just due to her visit to the dentist. But Ladi has equally kept postponing writing her project topic with the excuse there is still time.

One day, her mother called her into the room.

Ladi! Ladi!! Her mother, Madam Alice, called out.

Yes ma, I am coming replied Ladi, running into the house.

When she walks right in, her mother signals her to sit down.

Ladi, I called you to talk to you about this your habit of always procrastinating things that won't take you 2 seconds to do, Madam Alice said, going straight to the point without beating around the bush.

You need to start taking responsibility for yourself; don't let this habit make you lose or miss an opportunity, she added.

Mom, I will be fine, you worry too much. Okay, I promise next week I will visit the dentist, Ladi said, smiling.

Ladi is not just the dentist; what about your project? I haven't seen you doing anything about it; you are always on your phone. You are just watching videos Instead of doing research for your project.

Come on, Mom, I will start two of them next week Ladi said again, trying to reassure her mother.

What happens if you start it this week, madam Alice asked, looking frustrated at Ladi I don't care attitude.

This week has already run out, Mom, Alice replied, obviously getting impatient.

Today is Thursday, Ladi. What finished the week? You better start this night, or you won't like my next line of action, Madam Alice thundered, getting up from her seat.

But Mom, I have already made a promise. Can you let it slide till next week? Ladi said, almost in tears, cause she knows that if her mother has decided on something, it is hard to change her mind.

Ladi tries to keep her promise to her mom; she tries to book appoint with the doctor, but she will just shift it again; whenever she lifts her pen to start writing her project, she will just feel discouraged and drop the pen again. She felt guilty and frustrated with herself, but she couldn't seem to break the cycle of procrastination.

One day, Ladi's friend, a wise and kind young lady like Ladi, came to visit. She noticed Ladi's frustration and asked her what was wrong. Ladi told her how she had been struggling to start writing her project and how she kept canceling her appointment at the clinic.

Ladi's friend sighed, is that why your face is so rumpled, let me tell you something I struggle with procrastination, i have always wanted to learn how to be a fashion designer while I was still a jambite but look at me now, am schooling and shuffling to learn what I would have learned since.

So, Ladi, it is not too late for you to stop the habit. You might not be able to stop it once, but you can start from somewhere.

But now I have tried, but I keep postponing it; the day I try to keep it, I will be late, Ladi told her friend, feeling devastated.

"You know, Ladi, procrastination is like a muscle that gets stronger the more you use it. But the good news is that you can also weaken it by starting small, Ladi's friend advised her.

From that day, Ladi took her friend's advice to heart; she started writing her project in small increments, just 10-15 minutes a day. It wasn't easy at first, but gradually, she found herself getting into a rhythm.

As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks turned into months, Ladi's project work began to take shape. She finally finished writing it just in time for her presentation, and after that, she finally visited the dentist for her teeth correction.

There is a saying that goes, " little drops of water can make an ocean", and it's true in her case.

Very true, my mom will say that it's eyes that fear work, just start it before you know. It's done

She is really a wise woman

Procrastination is one thing that kills our plans and preparation for things. I'm glad Ladi listened to her friend and started working towards completing her project. Also, she did it for herself and not for anyone.

It's a strong disease that has killed many destiny. Thank you for stopping by

Procrastination is an enemy of progress. The more it is enforced, the more it keeps one away from maximizing his or her potentials.

Procrastinating is a very subtle habit that can deprive us of great and important things in life. In Ladi's case, she was seeing it as something harmless and manageable, but the reality was different. Excellent that after the advice she was able to realize it and make the adjustments she needs so much 😊.
