The new season officially starts today with an interesting match between Club Brugge & KV Mechelen. I already have a couple early bets for this week shared in the SBC Discord with more to come and as always I will be covering all matches live.
Club Brugge vs Kv Mechelen
Club Brugge starts the season as the big title favorite and rightfully so as the gap in budget between them and the completion has only grown over the years. This was similar last season where they really disappointed under Deila but still managed to beat their home handicaps in the regular season (7.5W-6.5L-1P). The main issue often were away games and the lack of real drive to win knowing they were better or not really pushing when they took the lead. This was kind of similar in the Super Cup which was won by Union who simply had way better mentality and it is what got them to draw last year's opener against Kv Mechelen. During the Playoffs, however, this was no issue at all and they will start this match warned. I would not be surprised for Hayen (who the board was forced to keep on because of the title) is going to fall short and not much will be needed for him to get in doubt if they take difficult wins or lose a couple of matches. KV Mechelen after Hasi took over had a really good period with the focus mainly on the defense but it remains a team who are short on money and they lost quality both in offense and defense. Coucke, Garananga, Bates, Cobbout, Mukau, Silmani, Bassette, & Bolingoli left while Van Cleemput, Van Heusden, Antonio, Aziz are not ready to play yet. Club Brugge for a long time had a history of crushing it during the 1st league home match winning 11 years in a row with a 41-11 goal difference. However, this streak and trend stopped with 2 draws and a loss in the last 4 years. I do see this as a match where the quality difference is just too big especially as the defense of Mechelen no longer is what it used to be. The motivation should be there for Brugge as they really need to set the momentum early on. I took 0.3 units on
Club Brugge -1.25 @ 1.953 with an eye to possibly take more in-game.
