Saturday was somewhat of a rollercoaster losing a coinflip in the Standard match while in the end having fortune on my side in the Genk match. KV Mechelen vs Beerschot
Mechelen is a team that has had a good form even though they failed to win their previous 2 matches. They have been a good home team against the asian handicaps and I still consider them an over team at home. They also are near complete today and will be able to field their A-Squad. Beerschot now has taken multiple surprise points and only lost 1 in their previous 5 matches. This mainly comes because of a switch to a way more defensive approach. It's crazy to think they actually took 1Win and 2 draws against Anderlecht, Club Brugge and AA Gent. Despite this, I'm still not sold on them and see them as the weakest team in the league even though they haven't looked as horrible as earlier in the season. They also have their full squad available and I do expect them to come to Mechelen to prioritize the defensive efforts similar to the away match against Westerlo. That match ended in a 2-2 as Beerschot had 100% scoring and a 13-4 in corners. So it's a match where I feel I have a good feel on what will happen but where the odds are set in a way where it feels impossible to find good value having to go for a hero call against the statistics which generally tends to backfire. I did end up taking 0.25 units on
1H Under 1.25 @ 2.010 as I see a defensive Beerschot at the start with Mechelen who likely will need patience to break through.I also took 0.05 units on
1H Under 1 @ 2.740 with an eye to trade out of it hoping there will be no early goal this time.
OH Leuven vs Union SG
So OHL fired their coach recently as results were not there anymore and more frustration from both sides piled up. Garcia mainly complained that he had bad strikers who can't make more than 10 goals in a season. There will now be an interim coach. I do see plenty of quality in the OHL team and belief in themselves was one of the main issues combined with an approach that was too focused on the defense. They were the most under team in the league with on average only 1.02 xg against while at the same time they only created 1.05xg which is in line with how many they scored. So the question mainly is if there is going to be a different approach and a shock effect especially from the strikers. Key players Verstraete who does all the dirty work is suspended. The last time he was out was against AA Gent where they lost 3-0 even though they only got 0.99xg against. Union was able to put up an excellent performance at home against Genk winning with 4-0 which was fully deserved. They rank 2nd best on xg against at only 1.12 this season so it's a match between the 2 best defenses which explains the 2.25 total line. The coach change and the improved scoring form of Union however might not make the previous numbers valid anymore and Verstraete suspended also won't help OHL. The 2 main options for me are the over and Union win but these go against the good defensive stats and the coach change effect. Union is also 0.5W-5.5L-1P away against the asian handicap. The odds for me are worth the risk taking 0.2 units each on
Union -0.5 @ 2.039 and
Over 2.25 @ 1.960
Anderlecht vs AA Gent
Anderlecht in the match against Cercle showed that they are deadly when being the weaker team as they have plenty of quality offensively and score fairly easy on counters. At the same time they kind of lack the drive and the winning mentality which will backfire in some matches. Anderlecht still is without Vertonghen and Hazard while Dendoncker is back. I don't see them as the most secure team defensively. AA Gent so far this season played poorly but always one way or another still managed to get the results. In their last match they played good against a very weak standard and there is a noticeable difference for Gent between their home and away matches. Generally, I see them as a team who kind of lack quality compared to their top team status in the league. So far they played 1 away match against a top team Club Bugge which ended in a flattering 2-4 as they had 100% finishing. AA Gent yet has to lose an away 1st half this season while Anderlecht only won 2. The only bet I'm somewhat comfortable with and took is 0.25 units on
AA Gent 1H +0.25 @ 1.810
Westerlo vs Kortrijk
Westerlo has dropped back after an excellent start and lost 3 out of their last 5 matches. The match they did win however was at home against Dender in a match where they played poorly and needed the 1-0 against play to gain confidence and win 2-0 in the end also getting a penalty. They are a team that I'm willing to oppose against good teams which Kortrijk clearly isn't. They are coming off 2 away matches where they lost with 4-0 and 3-0. In their previous home match they also showed zero drive in the 1st half against Antwerp and a 1-2 out of nowhere was needed to get them going against a very thin Antwerp who played almost exclusively with youngsters. So Kortrijk is a team I'm looking to oppose but at the same time Westerlo is not really the team I'm willing to back right now especially at a -0.75 line. This is a match where I will see on the spot before pulling any triggers.
