Hello Cent Platform!
Where is the dignity of human life when fellow humans trade their kind for money both domestically and internationally.
One of the neo-slavery practiced illegally across the world is in two forms: human trafficking and forced labour and these menace have been declared by the United Nations as crimes against humanity.
Human trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation. Human trafficking can occur within a country or trans-nationally. It is distinct from people smuggling, which is characterized by the consent of the person being smuggled.
Apart from forced labour, sexual slavery is prevalent in terms of what human traffickers use their victims for due to the kind of money they make in return for their victims. The most vulnerable are women and girls, although men are also trafficked across borders.
Many who were rescued from the shackles of traffickers have blamed the poor state of their country's economy which range from poverty, unemployment and insecurity. The globe have been divided into two parts: the core (global north) and the periphery (global south) as described by Paul Collier in his book Bottom Billion.
The global south (which are majorly victims of human trafficking) is made of low income and is characterized by dictatorship and lacks infrastructural development, although rich in human resources.
Many of the victims of human trafficking are promised job opportunities overseas and on arrival they're subjected to all manner of dirty jobs, which includes prostitution.
Abolitionists who seek an end to sex trafficking explain the nature of sex trafficking as an economic supply and demand model. In this model, male demand for prostitutes leads to a market of sex work, which, in turn, fosters sex trafficking, the illegal trade and coercion of people into sex work, and pimps and traffickers become 'distributors' who supply people to be sexually exploited. The demand for sex trafficking can also be facilitated by some pimps' and traffickers' desire for women whom they can exploit as workers because they do not require wages, safe working circumstances, and agency in choosing customers.
Human trafficking victims face threats of violence from many sources, including customers, pimps, brothel owners, madams, traffickers, and corrupt local law enforcement officials and even from family members who do not want to have any link with them.
Finally, to prevent or completely end human trafficking, countries of the world needs to improve their economy that'll accommodate more people and raise the standard of living in all ramifications. Although this is highly restrictive and could be fought by some capitalist nations who wants to constantly exploit the resources of these poor or low income countries. Also, bad leadership in countries should be voted out through electioneering process. Create industries that'll incorporate graduates, skilled and unskilled workers in the country to make everyone feel among.
Thanks!
