Compare and Contrast VYB with POB

I've been a little hesitant to write this because it shows my ignorance. The cliché is, "There's no such thing as a stupid question." I'm old enough to know that this saying is hogwash and that there are infinitely many stupid questions. I hope this is not one.

Still, I'm going to ask...

...how are VYB and POB alike and how are they different?

My 9th grade English teacher taught me that to "compare and contrast" is to analyze the similarities and the differences. She drew a Venn diagram on the board. I still don't know who Venn is or was, but she or he must have been pretty doggone clever to wrangle such a lasting legacy out of something as simple as drawing two ovals.

The initial posts for VYB have been wrought with details and maths. I like that. It suggests that time and pre-meditated thought has been put into this endeavor. However, I don't really have time to dig into the nuts-and-bolts of what all it's telling me.

So, I'm asking, how are VYB and POB alike and different?

My possibly inaccurate understanding follows...

there are gripes with POB (and Hive) as to allowing downvotes, thus VYB will not allow them
there are gripes with POB (and Hive) as to allowing self upvotes, thus VYB will not allow them
VYB is new, POB is not new
else, other things are the same

These understandings may be entirely wrong, but that's why I'm asking! Please correct me if these notions are indeed mistaken. And thanks for any help.

VYB and POB both provide a forum where a majority of content creators can share their work without worrying about specialized communities.

POB, a layer 2 community, allows for the use of DV's based upon Hive guidelines. It also utilizes the mute in cases of repeated fraud.

VYB, also a layer 2 community, does NOT allow for the use of DV's. It standards apart from Hive in this area. It has been considering its development since earlier this year and worked to develop policies of governance that includes transparent and sensible moderation and curation policies. We believe that it isn't the tribe owner who is solely responsible for the success of a community. Those who engage here play a role as well and are equally responsible to improve the platform and allow it to evolve as time progresses.

How are VYB and POB alike?

Both have the same supply and inflation curves, and those curves will be matched, so that at any given time the total supply of VYB will match the total supply of POB (and both of those match bitcoin (BTC), but with a 12-year 2-month lag).

However, that does not mean the circulating supply of VYB will be the same as POB, because there was an effort early on within POB (by a few folks) to burn POB tokens to make them more scarce. Although I spoke out against this approach, it persisted for a while. Any POB that has been burned will never be able to circulate.

And how are they different?

POB rewards arrive fully liquid -- you can sell them all as soon as you receive them.

VYB rewards will arrive 100% staked, but can be powered down to receive liquid VYB the next day (at 4% per day, for 25 days). As such, VYB is structured to encourage hodling, especially by authors. Authors who power down their VYB will be temporarily placed on an 'ignore' list by the VYB Curation Project, which will mean potentially less exposure for their future posts.

There might be a few more differences, but those are the major ones.

This really helps me understand. So, (1) although starting at 21 million, VYB is more scarce as compared to POB due to burning. And (2), VYB is received staked, not liquid, and anyone powering down (ostensibly to prep to sell) gets put on the naughty list. Okey dokey and thank you.

So, (1) although starting at 21 million, VYB is more scarce as compared to POB due to burning

21 million is the total amount that will ever exist (of either POB or VYB, or BTC).

POB started at 1 and has climbed to 2 million. By the end of 4 years (in February 2025), approximately half of all POB will have been issued (about 10 million tokens). Same is true with VYB.

VYB is starting at 2 million, so that it starts parallel to POB in terms of total tokens issued. So, in that respect, VYB is like POB's fraternal twin, oddly the same 'age' even though born 9 months later.

The additional scarcity of POB due to burning is minimal, though (about 5,700 POB = 0.3% of current supply).
