Utility "Service" Incompetence Strikes Again

Check the list of directors at the bottom of the announcement.

In South Africa they like to throw around words like "investigate" which in all honesty buys them time for their incompetence. Last night the water in our taps disappeared and we were not part of the planned maintenance shut down program which has been running for 3 days and continues next week. In South Africa you need a sense of humor, patience and a thick skin otherwise you will be stressed out lol.

Our local reservoir ran dry which is kind of bonkers considering how much rain we have had over the last 2 weeks which has been every day. Yes we know the lack of skills crates havoc with the infrastructure and services, but this is more a lack of common sense and brain power. There s little competence on show and is the main underlying cause for all the failures we experience on a regular basis.

There is no accountability, but Johannesburg Water are quick to send out notification with the list of their directors at the bottom and if I was one of them I would remove my name out of embarrassment. Johannesburg Water is not a private company and is an SOE so this is no shock that they can cock this up. This is like the California DEI hires having people in place of leadership that should be employed doing menial work. We have BEE which is black economic empowerment and is as bad as DEI hiring and until that changes there will be no improvements and SA will remain a third world country.

There is always corruption behind every failure and trust me on this there is no difference with the water issues in Johannesburg. A tender was awarded last year for two ANC members to supply water tankers when there are water outages and when they are required they are never spotted. Maybe they did purchase 2 water tankers but when you have over 90 suburbs without water like today and next week for the next 3 days for planned maintenance then obviously this will be insufficient justifying next year a much larger tender payment. This is how things work and how those in power steal from the people.

The question I am asking myself is do I need to install a borehole now and is water going to be as problematic as the electricity has been over the last 15 years? I don't plan to stay here in the future and would like to be out of the country and this mess within the next 4 years so a borehole will probably not happen unless it hits a crisis.

My electricity connection that is working illegally due to incompetence is still being investigated and after visiting the City Of Johannesburg offices back in December. They never completed the installation and no electrician I hire is allowed to touch it. The days are ticking by and we are now heading into week 6 and at least I reported this again so there is not much more I can do from my side. The last words they mentioned was that they need to investigate so who knows how long this might take and may never be fixed.
