My Overall Review of Tides of Fate (5 Points)
Greetings folks and welcome to my 5 point review of Gods Unchained ToF set overall. Here we go!
Art: 9.
Art was on point aside from a few things. Atlant raptor was a bit odd for me. Tilgof's dog also didn't fit the overall "theme" but this is nit picky.
Lore: 8.
The lore this time was a BLAST, had a lot of fun reading it and gettting towards some cool eldritch stuff at the end of the set. What dread is coming? dreaded atlants? Nethers? Deception?
Design: 7.5.
I don't mind the "starter deck" archetypes as much and I love the move away from the chase neutrals package, but I also like that the old stuff is still viable. 7.5 for balance issues.
Balance, 5.
Considering there was a balancing team that tested this I do not understand how Arrandion got through eliminating numerous archtypes. Various other cards are problematic for future designs aswell.
Events. 3 (Interesting ideas but needs improvement).
I didn't like that "the balance was at stake", I don't think the participants realized that from the start. The event was a fun idea but it didn't really capture the audience. A lot of people just picked dragons or sartonians without really knowing what was going on or why in client.
Distribution, 3 (Interesting ideas but needs improvement).
This set was complicated for the average player to understand which packs what cards come from. Perhaps a slightly different border or idk next time so it can even visually be identified. The split between reward/sealed/paid packs was interesting and I hope to see it improved going forward. If it was not complicated to understand this point would be quite higher.
Overall 6.5/10
I had a lot of fun playing through this set. I love the team's direction around tribal and domain strength and IDENTITY, each tribe and subtribe has a unique feel/style of play. Look forward to seeing more of it. Bumped from 8.5 after pensively thinking about it, I can't allow extra points merely from "enthusiasm there weren't OP chase neutral BiS" this set. Warps my standard for set development.
Talking Tidbits: Set Finishing up and a lot to do
With this set finishing print on the 22nd I have a few videos I need to publish before new cards change the meta and make them "less than fresh or relevant". I also want to have them be viable for the audience to play before the meta shifts entirely yet again. Cheers everyone, this is just a review of ToF as a GU set. I hope you folks are having a nice week out there. Thanks for the continued support in everything you do, always appreciated.
