SportsTalkSocial community: Overview

in #hive-1016902 years ago

About 4/5 months ago I made a post where I reviewed the state of our community and a post suggesting a possible team change.

In my last post, my suggestion was not seen with good eyes and I ended up not making contributions. However, since I love to talk about sports and that a sports community has enormous potential, I decided to review the state of our community again.

Let's start the overview...

General Numbers

After the post that stirred up the waters a bit, we had posts in the community to hire a social manager and a community manager.

Has this helped our community?

Community Followers/Interactions/Active users

Last ReviewCurrent stateDifference
Followers40054195+ 190
Iterations584442- 142
Active users123117- 6

As we can see, although we managed to have more than 190 followers, both active users and iterations decreased.

So we can conclude that we were not able to retain users in our community and make people interact with each other.

Social Media (Twitter)

In terms of Twitter, we noticed that there are a few more publications, but even so, the profile still has only 433 followers.

However, the engagement with these tweets is very little or practically nil and the tweets that we see, besides being about the contests, we don't even take advantage of, but sharing the post that @cryptoandcoffee is making showing quality posts in the community.

Discord

In terms of Discord, we can say that it is a ghost channel, since nobody talks about anything there, nor is it sunny or rainy.

Financially

SPORTS Token

In terms of price, Sports is or should be at one of the lowest values ever, 0.00000779 Hive.

Honestly, why is this happening?

Because at the moment there is no incentive for people to continue to buy or hold their tokens, and I don't think this is going to change because the only case is curation.

Hive Power

Currently, after @patrickulrich has separated his private funds from the community related accounts, we are able to know exactly what the community assets are.

I'm in favor of him doing this because that way anyone who wants to analyze the community's assets has the real information.

@sportstalksocial@sports-govTotal
HP33.4218 229.5658 262.986
HBD2.82674.06776.893

Of the 8 229,565HP from the sportstalksocial account, 5 160 HP are delegated to the @actifit.rewards account.

When I spoke about this in the past, it was said that this was an agreement between our community and actifit for the distribution of SPORTS.
Well, if I'm not wrong this must have been done over 3 years ago, and it seems to me that we're already giving funds to other communities that don't give us anything against it.

How come you don't give us anything?

One of the questions I raised was whether @actifit.rewards curated certain posts in our community.
At the time, I didn't remember to analyze this, but now I have concrete data about this.

Anyone who wants can do the same analysis using hivebuzz data looking to the Curation Author Rewards table.

I analyzed 143 random posts out of over 1000 posts, and the numbers I came up with were as follows:

Actifit CommunitySportsTalk Community
Curated Posts1430

As we can see, that account does not curate any posts from our community, in addition to having our funds to curate posts without the minimum of quality.

In addition to receiving votes from our delegation, they also win SPORTS, so I can't understand how this is advantageous for our community.

Hive Engine

And in relation to the assets that we have in HE, what are they?

As we can see that our community has some assets in HE, even though they are nothing out of this world, they could generate a liability and this could be used to buyback SPORTS or power up sportstalksocial.

Conclusion

In my opinion, there is still room for the community to improve both in terms of presence on the web2 to try to attract more people, and to make some changes in relation to our assets that could help burn more SPORTS and, at the same time, also increase the main account's HP.

However, it seems to me that this may not be done as quickly as it would be necessary because it is necessary to create the DAO and as of the 16 455 holders only 116 are active in the community and something I understood was that nobody wants to stop “being decentralized” in favor of a greater good that is to try to fix the community before it dies.

Are we going to let the community “die” and then say we got 3 years of SPORTS distribution, or are we going to try to do something to change the situation?

Sort:

I have to agree, I'm not sure what those new roles have achieved or even attempted to achieve at this point. Accepting that there is a lot of work to do and that no one was likely to make a significant impact over night, it would be good to know if the individuals elected to those roles have anything in the pipeline?

The Discord channel is a ghost town but I think it's symptomatic of the way the community works, or doesn't as the case may be. "Sports" covers an incredible variety of activities and games and while you might love one or two sports very few people have an interest in all the available sports. Even within those sports, support tends to be very tribble. You might love football, but only watch the EPL. You might watch your team in the EPL and have very little interest in other club.

I feel we should think of the Sportstalk community more as an umbrella organization helping to develop true "tribes" that carry more of a niche offering. Engagement in those instances will be and indeed is much better, see for example the Hive FPL discord channel where users chat regularly about the Premier League.

As for web2, we can invest time and effort into social media platforms like Twitter but I doubt we'll see huge numbers flocking towards the site as a result. My feeling is that instead, we should be putting time, effort and funding towards encouraging content that is primed for SEO. You can have a look at my personal website (it's in my profile description). That has driven 15,000 views of my blog on Hive this month alone and most of that traffic is a result of people finding my website via a search engine. I don't promote anything through Twitter and never will.

As for actifit, completely agree. I can't see any benefit to the sportstalk community of this arrangement. If nothing else it just spams up the sportstalksocial webpage itself with unrelated content.

Agree with you here @talesfrmthecrypt. The FPL discord is great fun and thriving. Theres a DAO on Sportstalk but nobody is bothered putting anything forward. At least with Splinterlands, the team there propose ways to improve and it is voted for. @cryptosimplify proposed something a few months ago and he was ran out the door. At least he tried something. What do they say. Better to try something than nothing at all. As a result of the karfuffel there was some movement like the Community Manager role but I haven't seen much else happening on the platform. The actifitter I thought 90% spam posts and 10% proper fitness posts. it's ridiculous.

After the end of the season there are probably a couple of things we can do for the FPL where we could make use of the DAO. If the support for those projects isn't forthcoming then the simple solution is to create our own token...

How's development on the Last Man Standing coming?

Hivebuzz did the artwork but haven't had time to really develop it. Would love to do it the way Hivebuzz did the world cup tournament so will work out if I could do something like that.

Unfortunately, the person that have all the keys don't want to know about the community.
He always says we have a DAO, and we shall do a proposal but how we will have a proposal voted if no one wants to know about the community, and it is necessary 51% of the stakeholders vote?

I started to think if we can set up a team a start a fresh sport community, however Patrick will be laughing since we can run away with all community funds.

First of all I would like to congratulate you on your website.
I wasn't aware of it, nor had I ever seen a blog set up with Hive posts from a given account being integrated into a "normal" website.

This gave me even more ideas that could help this community, but since I'm not the owner of the community we have to wait for the owner to decide to show up here.

The Discord channel is a ghost town because something was never created where people would feel comfortable talking about any sport. If there is a topic that you can spend hours discussing, it is sport.
The idea that you share in relation to the Sports discord being an umbrella and other initiatives like the Hive FPL should/could be integrated there is true.

Regarding the search for things on the web2 I agree with you and clearly that a frontend with good SEO could bring much more gains than walking around on Twitter or another social network looking for more people, or something like that for the community.

That delegation to Actifit doesn't make any sense right now and only harms our community.

Do you have discord, twitter or telegram where we can talk?
I would like to ask you a question if possible.

Yeah, I'm on discord same user name talesfrmthecrypt, you can find me via the sportstalk channel.

Initially there was good interaction. There were some earlier problems with the community that did kill the vibe in a bit and then not much to try and sustain it.

Would be cool if we could try and move a lot of that chat onto the blockchain anyway whether that's via threads or some other initiative.

Would be cool if we could try and move a lot of that chat onto the blockchain anyway whether that's via threads or some other initiative.

Yes, current we can use threads to talk about things however if we want to discuss community internal subjects discord there is still a role in this part because we can tag everyone and that way everyone receives notifications

Because at the moment there is no incentive for people to continue to buy or hold their tokens, and I don't think this is going to change because the only case is curation.

The more important of those are the no incentive to hold/stake their tokens apart from curation rewards.

The only way to save the value of the token is to add additional value for peoole to not sell their tokens, staking rewards is one way that I know works.

!ALIVE

I know that... more and more we see tokens being created in the various blockchains that exist that give rewards to token holders

I think here we need to start to do this otherwise the token will reach 0 as value.

@cryptosimplify! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @flaxz. (1/20)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.

I will admit I have not heard too much about this community lately. I hold 3 million SPORTS, but that is not worth a huge amount. At least my votes can give extra rewards to a few people. I have tended to support runners, but not all will use the tag.

There are just so many tokens on Hive and it can be hard to stand out. Sport ought to be bigger here, but it is just not happening for some reason. I would see Actifit as covering a slightly different need and the two can run in parallel.

I hope people can find ways to improve the situation.

Actifit and SPORTS can coexist, but I don't think the SPORTS shall delegate HP to Actifit since they only curate Actifit post and SPORTS it is not a huge whale related to HP.

All HP shall be used in benefit to help the community.

I'm sorry to mention you here, but since this is about the future of the community I would like to know everyone's opinion, because it seems to me that there will be no future at this level and I would like to know if it is worth thinking about it or simply better forget about it that no one is very interested.

May be I had missed the initial post or call.

In this post you have the links to other post that I have made about this kind of topics

Similar to what Steve has said, I have some 4.6M $SPORTS which is worth whopping $17. To be honest I forgot about this community lately. Not much interaction on my part anyway so it's not community's fault.

I don't think it can survive on its own without some targeted and long term activity to attract people.

That said, I am not volunteering to do this work :(

Anyways, good luck.

@tipu curate

I don't volunteer for this myself either.

There is a community owner who always "managed" this alone and never asked for help to implement new things that would encourage token holders.

I just wanted to know if there's any hope for this community or if it's one that will die.

I didn't target anyone, I just think community accounts shouldn't be delegating HP to an account that doesn't do anything for the community.

I agree. Yet, the one who holds the keys decides what to do with the community account's assets. Unless there is a protocol for governance?

There is a DAO but know one uses it and I think almost no one knows how to use it.

This:

People are usually always looking for added value... what "do I win" for participating or engaging with X or Y.

I confess that my interest was the DAO too, simply because I wanted to see it working with sports "things".

May I suggest to start defining a format that helps people use both the tags and take knowledge about the token? Usually, it's some sort of consistency that creates the awareness and to be honest these take ages to "mature" on the blockchain.

I agree that using web2 to create awareness might be the easiest way. Also, if tieing those with other projects in terms of "englobed" support, it might make more sense.

Another suggestion:

Doing an app, for bets on real games. Like many of the other idiot websites... but on the blockchain where things can't be adulterated. Can start straight away with simple posts... where the SPORTS token is the betting token, by simply upvoting one of two comments. The first upvote is the valid vote.

Involves some work around which games to support that, but maybe it has some wings to fly the moment those make "profit" for who bets.

I would be going participating in such ones for Formula 1 for example.

Time is NOT on my side lately, but I am here, and to be honest, these things never really die... all it takes is some good ideas and a bit of momentum.

Pools could have some attention too... (more tokens)... as that would help attract some bigger players. I am gonna drop some stuff there right now. Not big stuff... but at least is something.

You have given some good ideas, but they can only go forward if the stakeholders vote using the DAO since the community “owner” disappeared and don't say anything long time ago.

So, even if we want to try to put other tokens in the pool or do change on our front end to enable some ads and try to generate more assets or other thing, we cannot because “owner” maybe is “dead” and it is very difficult to have 51% stakeholders approving that proposal.

I also don't have a lot of time, but I took the time to try to turn this situation around, and what I got was a kick in the ass.
After 4/5 months, where are we? In the same place, or even worse.

I'm not going to make available the little free time I have to be trying to change things when the owner doesn't care and isn't interested in such a thing.

So, even if we want to try to put other tokens in the pool

This one I was referring to people... not the owner. Anyone can add tokens to a distribution already running in a pool. Check the ones I added for example.

Here: https://tribaldex.com/distribution

But yeah, if the owner is not around its pointless to support this. There is nothing we can do without keys for the accounts that matter.

Either way, its a good testimony about how the DAOs should evolve, they should have authorities enabled so that this does not happen in this situations where someone goes AOL

I know that, but the initiative that start for the owner. Otherwise, why people will put more tokens from their pocket to try anything if the owner it is not here?

I think this community will be "dead"

True, but in this case, the pool distribution will be here for another "Rewards end in 5376 days" ... meaning until this ends, we don't need him. It's a lot of years! Eventually, he might come... unless he's not with the human race anymore. I hope he is still, but maybe we will know later.

Maybe it would be nice to kindly investigate if anyone knew him, and to either acknowledge or not that he is not here because he gave up, of because of something else.

Then from there, we can make more plans as a community.

I am gonna try to spend some time checking that out in my spare time.

I am thinking if we shall not start a fresh sports community where we can implement things that are missing here.

However, I really dont like to let Patrick go away with all community funds.
