20 must-play Nintendo exclusives when buying a Switch for the first time in 2023

Welcome to the world of Nintendo Switch 🎮🤩

I've had a launch Nintendo Switch for about 5 years now. I don't play it as much as I used to, but I don't see myself ever getting rid of it since Nintendo has so many amazing exclusives that you can only play on the Switch.

I hadn't thought much about Nintendo Switch games until recently when I found out that my brother had purchased a Nintendo Switch OLED (Zelda Edition). It surprised the hell out of me because he had never mentioned wanting one in the past. It is the best mobile console though, so I totally understand why he had the desire. That and as I mentioned before, there are just so many awesome games.

For somebody who is just getting a Nintendo Switch in 2023, it can be very easy to overlook many of the great games that have come out during the lifecycle of this console. I thought it would be beneficial to my brother and all readers if I made a list of my favorite Switch games. I've played pretty much all of the games on this list, but some I do not own. I can however vouch for each game still because they are all high-quality titles with solid reviews. You can bet there are many other great games that are not on this list, but these are my personal recommendations.

The main factor for this list outside of fun is the Switch-exclusivity. All of these games are only available on Nintendo Switch. Some are ports of Wii U titles, but I think most of us skipped that console anyway, so that doesn't really count.

There is a variety of types of games on this list, so there should be something for just about anyone.

Yeah, that's why I never got into Metroid Dread past the demo that I played. I could tell it was a solid experience, but not one I wanted to power through myself.

It was exactly in the demo that I was afraid when I played for the first time, wow, those EMMI, they get on my nerves, if in the first minutes it's already like this, imagine continuing the game kkkk, I'm really looking forward to a mobile game that will launch, Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, I'm a big fan of the Final Fantasy saga.

I have a Nintendo Switch unhacked since 1 year ago. Don't have too many games because the high prices in my country, and I can't buy from the Nintendo e-store because of the US Embargo. But days ago I have bought Zelda TotK, OMG such a good game!! I can't stop playing it in my free time.

I 95% agree with your list, I would actually remove Pokémon and add Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I was disappointed with the last few Pokémon releases, however, it should be given a chance. All the other games are awesome and make for an excellent time.

I was never a fan of Xenoblade, but I know it has a lot of fans. Same with Bayonetta, another great game that I didn't really enjoy too much myself. Pokemon has been going downhill, or I'm just outgrowing it. They really need to do something big to modernize the franchise. An open-world Pokemon game using Unreal Engine 5 would be insane but likely would need a more powerful Nintendo console for something like that.

Have you ever triped Temtem? It's an alternative to Pokemon and I love it a lot. It does so many things correctly that newer Pokemon games are not doing.

I agree with you about Pokémon, they lack innovation graphically. why not take inspiration from TLOZ? and create something similar. don't you think?

Regarding Temtem, I've played it really very little, I discovered that game on Steam, and I just found out it's for Switch, I think I'll give it one more chance. I'm going to see how it is, if you love it, it surely has good stuff.

It's awesome, but learning the new types and weaknesses takes some getting used to. It's pretty cool that it is also an MMO and you see other people roaming around the world.

Luckily Switch is the cheapest console of them all, but still a costly purchase I know. I actually just played Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest the other night with a friend. It was fun, but I prefer the newer games honestly. I'm spoiled with the latest and greatest.

Pretty much a perfect list even if I haven't played all of them Super Mario Odyssey is THE game for the Nintendo Switch. If I had to pick only one.

Agreed, Odyssey is the one that has stuck with me the most. Zelda is cool to me but just didn't feel as magical as all the different worlds in Odyssey. I am so hyped that I am going to get to gift Odyssey to my brother so he can experience it too. Hope he enjoys it as much as I did.
