Hive Heads - Custom Artwork

These are my depictions of what it feels like on Hive sometimes.

We all know about the great times, but what about the down times? Surely you can recall your most successful weeks on Hive, but most would rather focus on the bad moments.

I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed somebody get started on Hive and do great their first week or so. Then, when they make a post that gets little to no upvotes they just decide to quit and disappear. Did they jump off of a bridge and kill themselves? Probably not, but they may as well have since their existence on Hive totally vanishes. Sure, that little bit of content that they did post will remain forever on the blockchain, but not many people are going back any further than 24 hrs to see a post right now.

What if I told you that every single person in these photos is still very happy, despite sometimes being alone with their content? Would you believe me?

That's the type of positivity and commitment that is needed to be able to watch your wallet value continue to grow over the years. You will make many great friendships along the way too, but one of the best parts is being rewarded and being able to reward others. None of this is possible if you give up at the first sight of resistance.

I've been blessed to be one of the top rewarded users on Hive for several different months, but not every single month. Hive can be very inconsistent, but remember that it's not always about you. Other people exist in this ecosystem and if one person was getting all of the rewards then Hive would not be something that many care about.

The goal is to make Hive the new standard for social media. Instead of sharing a post on Facebook, people should be sharing on Hive where they have many incentives to host their thoughts. You can't just force everyone to do this all at once. In fact, some people may never do it and will remain back in the wastelands of Web 2 until they die. You don't have to be one of those people.

I'm nearing 5 years on Hive, and less than a month away from that mark. I'm not amazed that I'm still here, I set a goal and have stuck with it. Although in the beginning, I struggled and struggled to gain ground. The first few years were spent and I didn't have much to show for it yet. Still, it was more than I had to start, so I knew that bigger things were at least possible here.

Fast-forward to now and I have Hive to thank for the amazing life that I get to live daily. I am no longer chained to an employer who cares nothing about me. I look forward to waking up every day. I get to do the things that I enjoy most. My life is as close to stress-free as I think it can get. All because I didn't give up during the times when people forgot about me or disagreed with something that I posted. You cannot please everyone all of the time. You also cannot always be in the spotlight, it's just most likely not going to happen.

I'd like to think that my designs today are self-portraits for the community and not just myself. We all know how it feels to put a ton of effort into something, only to be left with no interactions or love of any type. Don't give up hope though, because there is almost always somebody watching whether you know it or not.

This is a great motivation to stay here and continue Hiving. ☺️

Congratulations on your coming 5 years in Hive sir.!🎉

I know we can all use as many boosts to our motivation as possible.
Thank you, less than a month from now I'll be posting about my official 5-year mark and I cannot wait!

i can relate to the last paragraph. obviously i don't put the same amount of effort on all my contents, but when i do and i feel like this is one of my best works, and when i don't get that much attention to that content, i can't help but feel that "the less efforted content was fine, why did i do this for?"

Effort in content varies. It doesn't always have to be the best thing you've ever done. I do think it feels pretty good to strive to do better than you have in the past though. If you are wondering why you did something afterward, ask yourself if you had fun and then think about the reward amount secondary.

Thanks. Thats what i try to do, try to have fun when creating something

Consistency is the key and it requires some power from within to push forward in the low times. Those succeeding that will thrive on the long term.

Pretty much everything that requires a lot of skill or effort to succeed benefits tremendously from consistency.

In the past I took long breaks from hive. At times I thought that I will never return here. I regret those times. I could have earned much more if I stayed here. Still I am glad that I returned every time.

I have felt zero desire to ever take a break and I'm very thankful for that amount of consistent motivation. I'm glad you decided to come back and I think in the future you will look back and be glad you did not give up. I think we all can look at our previous efforts and figure out a way now that we could do even better, but there is no rewriting your past, you must live with decisions and adapt to do your best as time goes on.

Love the artwork! very creative.
Quitting with posting is the easy way!
We have to push ourselves till it becomes a daily habit.

Thanks! I thought that keeping things simple could result in a powerful message.

It worked!
I'm doing some Hive streetpromotion in my country, hope more people join in.

a very good illustration of how most of us are with #Hive in mind and looking for the least to publish it here with all of you

It happens. We often feel alone, but rarely are we the only ones in the room. Some choose to watch without interacting and others curate with huge accounts anonymously. There is a plethora of different types of people here.

It can be frustrating when we don't get the results that we want. But we have to enjoy and trust the process. Thanks for this great motivation!

Not every great idea results in massive success.

I love this write-up. Very encouraging. Every newbie really need to see it.
It is not always rosy in the beginning but on the long run, the sacrifices made are worth it.

Sometimes I just have thoughts like these and luckily I have the perfect place to share them here on this blog. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it and felt some benefit afterward.

I absolutely did.
Cheers...

Thanks for the words of inspiration! I'm sure you will help many.

I like these types of posts that speak from personal experience because they make you see everything from a different perspective.

and in the end, perseverance is always the key

That's my goal with this one. I am happy to know you appreciate my thoughts of encouragement.

That's a great lesson to put out in respect not just to Hive but to life. Just as friends are never in your presence 100% of the time, you still know they have love and respect for you and will be back around in time.

What applies to Hive usually does apply to real life. That's a good sign that the way things work here will actually catch on to many more in the future.

Absolutely..sooner rather than later lol

I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed somebody get started on Hive and do great their first week or so. Then, when they make a post that gets little to no upvotes they just decide to quit and disappear.

My brother (@atis94) did something similar five years ago. I invited him. He posted a few times, and then he left. And he do not even want to come back to the platform. Not even after I told/showed him the huge help I received from the Hive blockchain in the previous few years. It is very hard to invite people, who will be active on the platform in long term.

My gf and brother are good examples. I helped each of them record some of the best introduction videos I've seen on here... they each made over $100 on their first post... then basically never posted anything again besides a few things well over a year ago. Sad that I can't get my loved ones to commit, but you can't force them. This kind of work isn't for everyone, at least not yet.

they each made over $100 on their first post... then basically never posted anything again besides a few things well over a year ago.

Wow. I have not heard such a thing so far. I saw that many people left after earning nothing or only a few cents with their posts. This is the opposite of that, and they still leave. I would not even thought that anyone would leave in this case. By the way, none of my posts earned $100 so far. Not even anything close to it.

Most people are just totally used to making companies money from their data. This whole idea of getting paid to create is still just so foreign. Even though they’ve watched me quit my job and really be able to pursue this stuff, they still show no interest.

Fortunately I don't have these bad days on Hive since some months ago hahaha, but we need to stay positive, Hive has more values, rewards it just one of them.

That’s great to know and it proves your resiliency was payed off.

yea.. who wants to be stuck in those wastelands?

U inspired me to make a little hive bobblehead pic of my own..

Hahaha I love it!

I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed somebody get started on Hive and do great their first week or so. Then, when they make a post that gets little to no upvotes they just decide to quit and disappear.

I have seen a lot of these since I joined in 2017. Especially those that are active on the old chain are almost if not all gone. But there are also those that remain (those that really love blogging no matter what).

It's sad to see so many users from the past who have vanished. The crazy thing is many of them still have their tokens just sitting in their wallet idle. At least delegate it away or maybe set up some auto-votes or something.

I agree, at least they delegate it so that it will earn passive income.

Thank you for tNice article about on hive! I am actually more excited in 2023 on hive price, defiantly it'll hit $2.

Nice and creative photo editing @daltono.

2023 could/should be a breakout year for us. I know we've been saying this each year, but it becomes more likely every time we say it.

I wish if not, 😃 I pray hive will be a good pump.

An inspirational message from Daltono? Oh my. I can't believe that you are almost a 5-year user of HIVE already.

"...Then, when they make a post that gets little to no upvotes they just decide to quit and disappear."

Well, as for this, I think yeah, many people are being like that here because they are not really into writing blogs but because they just want to earn. They are demotivated because they didn't earn as much as the others, but this kind of mindset is for the weak-minded only because they just think about money and don't enjoy being with new people and their supposed experience on the platform.

I enjoyed reading this! I hope many newbies can be inspired by you.❤️

I almost cannot believe it either!

Forcing yourself to write when you don't enjoy it sounds like torture. I'm so glad that this comes naturally to me.

Thanks for reading!

Forcing yourself to write when you don't enjoy it sounds like torture.

Oh yeah... I forgot that we don't have the same preferences. We can't like what other people like because we have different passions and dreams.

I'm so glad that this comes naturally to me

Me too! I started as a writer of tagalog stories like those on Wattpad when I was in high school. Fortunately, there are things like this (microblogging platforms) where I can use my writing.

I don't think people are leaving due to not making money. They already aren't earning money on web 2.

They're leaving because the content combined with the little bit of money they might make isn't enticing enough to keep them here. I just started out here and I'm sort of enjoying it (besides a lot of bugs), but if I was going to leave it would be over a lack of content. I'm going to keep searching and hopefully I'll get it to work well enough to quit browsing web 2.

Well I guess I meant some people first find out about Hive because someone told them about the potential to earn something. When that doesn't happen right away, it's easy to wonder why Hive is important. This is why taking the time to explain why Hive has value outside of rewards is important.

What sort of content are you looking for here? Maybe I could recommend some people or communities worth checking out.

I was away from hive for almost two years because I wasn't getting the results or upvote I wanted which was frustrating but coming back late last year, I decided to never give up and keep the consistency alive. I believe there's a much difference now than when I started which am grateful for but I still need to put in more effort for more positive results.

Two years is a very long time. Surely you noticed upon coming back that much had changed since you last visited. As long as you're showing up, you are already completing the hardest part of the equation. Everything else will fall into place eventually.

you have to focus on working and not think so much about the rewards received, I know it's difficult but there will surely be our maximum effort

If you find a way to make your content truly enjoyable for yourself, then the right people will eventually find it so they can enjoy it too. Trying to bend your preferences to what you may assume someone else wants is when this whole process becomes tedious and hard to remain consistent with. This means that being yourself and just creating what you enjoy is the best route in my opinion.

that is the right way not to create content for others, but for oneself and thus we could be more successful

in the beginning, I struggled and struggled to gain ground.

I think that most people here had the same experience, other than maybe a few outlier who were a part of the blockchains creation or early miners or whatever. It does take work to become successful on Hive. I think people who give up after only a week probaby have unrealistic expectations or possibly even entitlement issues lol. It takes time to develop a following and a reputation. New comers really need to realize that.

There are some people who are lucky enough to get started and have a guide to lead them in the right direction. Those people find success a lot quicker. That doesn't mean it's impossible to do well with little to no help in the early stages.

Yeah that very true. Both points.
I went with the trial and error approach for the longest time 😂

People start off well, are welcomed politely and are also given a lot of "tips and tricks" needed to survive here on the chain. Yet, many just run out of ideas soon enough, especially because they're trying too hard and taking it all a bit too seriously.

This is a form of social media we have here, and many forget that. If the newbie users stuck around and tried being natural, tried being themselves instead of trying to change who and how they are, then maybe we would have many more active users right now.

Also, many can't follow the trend and randomness of Hive, or crypto itself. One day they're getting votes, and the other day they're not, and all of sudden they're thinking that this is the end. People like stability, and that is why most of us human beings would rather rely on a job, a measly and steady % of return from a bank and other investment plans. Instead of "risking" and investing in something that grows we'd rather make less, and take the safe way out.

Many don't even see the potential of Hive or crypto, that is why they lack vision, a plan; that is why they end up quitting after a few months.

It is not easy to stay creative long-term. I'd like to believe that anybody is capable of it, but some people just find it a whole lot easier to do than others.

If you ignore the stress of rewards and treat Hive like you said it is, as a social media platform, then it all becomes so much more enjoyable.

Hive itself may be incredibly stable, but the rewards are the complete opposite of that. You never know who will reap loads of HIVE each day.

The fact that you understand what's going on here so well tells me that you are destined to succeed and remain around here for many years to come.

There are a lot of capable people here, users who aren't as active, but surely have the potential. It's just that some of them can't manage the time, and they're okay with it too, they take a bit of time off and then come back and post and engage whenever they can. That's how it should be actually, but most of the users just give up then and there, and that's just sad. Instead of setting a strict routine, we should all take it easy, and not stress ourselves too much about posting a lot or the rewards.

The fact that you understand what's going on here so well tells me that you are destined to succeed and remain around here for many years to come.

I've never been a "short-term person" it's all about growth and the long-term goals for me. Even though some of my "tactics" may seem a bit odd, still they do workout quite well for me.

I'm much safer with long-term goals and results, the short-term gains may seem intriguing, but it also holds more risk, and luck surely does not like taking my side when it comes to such things lol.

So, no matter the ups and downs, I'll be here for a while. 💪

I’m a huge proponent of a low stress lifestyle.

Great to have to around always.

Low stress lifestyle is the best lifestyle haha. Cheers man. 🥃

I'm nearing 5 years on Hive, and less than a month away from that mark. I'm not amazed that I'm still here, I set a goal and have stuck with it.

It's awesome to see how you've been able to keep your FOCUS in the HIVE ecosystem

Follow

and kept grinding all this time. You are truly a success story and I'm super inspired by it.

I'm still not able to post every day because of time, and coming up with content to talk/write about. But I'm working on that. I've found that doing HIVE on the weekends helps be develop ideas, and write a couple of posts ahead of time, so I'm definitely getting more consistent.

It’s become much easier now that I don’t have other things distracting me and taking away my valuable time.

I like that FOCUS acronym. I think as long as you’re here a lot or sometimes, it’s better than none at all. You don’t have to be here every single day to make a big impact 😎

Hive doesn't always promise rewards, but I'm not upset about that. No one should be, finding the right community, meeting the right people, interacting with them always takes a little bit of time and there is no need for people to wear themselves out. Just like in life, sometimes things don't work out in Hive. The important thing is to get up and keep doing what you're doing in the best way possible.

It pretty much never promises rewards, but I think the possibility of it is what makes things so exciting. I'm surprised that I somehow have managed to not get burnt out after nearly 5 years of daily posts. The worst that has happened is my quality as declined a few times, but I always found a way to get back on top of things.

That's really admirable, because I recently tried to write every day for a month and it was a lot of pressure and sometimes I was wearing myself out trying to write quality.

As soon as you feel tired our, take a break… but don’t let yourself get in a slump and forget to start your engine again.

Yeah, I'm trying to do that. Trying to balance myself

You are so right when it comes to not being rewarded all the time... Yet you shouldn't only be here to be rewarded all the time... A lot of people try to make a quick buck.. Rather find consistency and you'll be in a consistent growth pattern..

I've been on hive for a strong and solid five years.. However.. Ive only actually been on hive for probably 9 months... On and off... And on again...
With this said I only recently started gaining good rewards... Very recently.. And that was when I decided enough with the shit posting and found legitimate stuff to share.. Whether getting upvoted or not...

Im happy to say that in the last two... Perhaps three month my hive power grew to 1000 plus... And I am more than happy with that... Lets roughly calculate that to 3k perhaps 4k a year.. It aint bad... But that's only calculations

Honestly, the shitposting is what I want to see. Not spam, but funny bullshit is interesting.

I do get you on that one 😂 it's much needed on the platform actually.. A comedy corner or something

The quick buck is what will make curators not want to vote for you. Just being here for easy rewards and not actually committing is an easy way to make doing well very difficult. It'd be like going to a bar and just drinking a beer in the corner all by yourself and then stealing the money out of the tip jar before you leave. I think it sounds much better to drink with a group of people and then pay for your consumption like a respectable human being. Hopefully, that metaphor makes sense.

It's crazy you've been on here even longer than I have. 3 months more to be exact. 2017 was a year when many people started taking crypto seriously for the very first time.

Social media is always going to be filled with shit posts and I think it's okay to have some here and there. Especially ones that are funny, because it doesn't have to be long and high quality to make me laugh. I do however think that something of high quality is much more likely to be respected by a larger number of people which means more curation.

Sounds like these last few months have been some of your best and I'm very happy for you to be finding success. It's a good thing you never gave up.

I do get your metaphor incase you were wondering... And besides having a great time and enjoying it more adds value to your own perspective of it all.....

The thing is... As I write more and more it becomes easier so to speak? I dont think I write the most amazing shit, sometimes I cringe at what I write. But it becomes less effort for me... Less forced if I can say that.. It starts to feel natural and I enjoy it now. It doesn't necessarily feel like work to write a post anymore. I can easily find myself at 1k to almost 2k words in my posts 😂.. However I try to keep them short it doesn't always work for me... Im a blabbering person 😂😂

Like this comment😂😂

Reffering back to social media.. Since I came back to Hive the last time.. I swear ive not had more than 2 hours on FB and Insta combined,.. To be honest when I open either I feel that it's really only a lot of negativity.. Where as Hive opens me up to creativity.. I know it sounds cliche... But seriously... Even the lowest of effort posts from people feels to me like someone is trying you know... If that makes sense..

Laughs also... I can't even remember why I left the previous time.. I geuss life happened?

Funnily enough.. My hive account Birthday is on my actual birthday 😂😂 Atleast im pretty sure it is..

That's a huge bonus of writing regularly... you can process your thoughts so much better and it makes having regular conversations face to face a whole lot more natural.

I would say I dropped all the old social medias, because I pretty much did. However I do still use YouTube religiously. Twitter and Facebook I still have Amy get on daily, but not for much for than vital info or a good laugh.

Very convenient for you to remember your Hive account birthday. Mine isn’t my birthday, but the fact that it is the first day of the last month of the year makes it pretty easy to keep track of for me.

I haven't been here long at all, but Hive is worth so much more to me than the rewards. Having somewhere to share my wacky ideas, thoughts and feelings about the current world and the world we're heading to are great incentives for me.

There might be a lost day here and there when things get really hectic, but I always come back because I simply love the ability and freedom to express myself more here than on Web 2.0 social media (which I despise now). My blogs are mostly for me, but I know that there can be something in them for others too. The people I've met and interact with regularly have become like close friends and that is truly valuable.

I often wonder why people leave, there's nowhere I would rather express myself as a creative outlet.

It is such a great place to share things like that.

So many people struggle to express themselves, so this type of thing can be hard for those types of personalities.

I agree, but I do think that there's greater opportunity here than elsewhere so even personalities that struggle with it will find their place as it's so varied with the communities. Thanks for your reply, appreciate it.

For sure agree with the sentiment here! I've had some awesome weeks, hell even just recently I was for some reason getting a bunch of really strong votes from a few really big accounts and felt on top of the world, that I could crush my Hive Power goals for the year and have some left over.

Fast forward a few weeks and those votes have dried up for whatever reason lol. I'm not mad, a little disappointed because who doesn't love a strong upvote on a post?! But I've realized that with Hive, nothing is guaranteed really. Posts have to reach payout before the reward is then determined. My goals might not get achieved but that's fine, that's the thing with a goal. You set it and try to achieve it as hard as you can but sometimes it won't work.

I'd rather not force it, fake it and do all kinds of dumb shit to grind towards the goal but instead just keep writing, engaging and running the Rant community. What happens, will happen!

I think these are the things that people don't grasp or appreciate about a place like Hive. It takes time and even with time, things fluctuate and especially when there is a negative sentiment to the market it reflects into peoples moods.

Best thing to do regardless of good rewards or bad rewards is to most importantly engage on people's posts and communities and write at least one post a day if it's manageable. The rest will fall in place the way it wants to.

Those weeks where you totally crush it feels quite amazing.

Just doing your thing and riding the wave of unpredictability that comes with curation has always felt like the best way to go about things. Trying to force yourself to be a certain way just isn't fun.
