Let's talk about Freechain 🗽⛓️
A few weeks ago I finally got the chance to watch Freechain from start to finish. There was a showing at HiveFest 2023 in Mexico, but I was unable to attend. This meant I had to patiently wait for it to be shown at a recent film festival. This marked the first time I paid for a movie ticket in a very long time. It may have only been $12 to gain access to the film festival, but that's not something I'd normally do when I'm used to pirating any movie I wish to watch. Hive motivates me to do a lot of things I wouldn't normally do.
The film festival is now over, so hopefully you were in the loop and had a chance to watch Freechain as well. Although you can no longer watch the movie via the festival, you can still refer back to this post. Be sure to follow @lordbutterfly to stay up to date with the status of Freechain. There's a good chance that it won the vote at the festival and will earn some awards. Many thanks to anybody who actually took the time to watch Freechain and vote for it.
I don't want to spoil the movie, but I will say that it is very well done. It's not all about Hive as you may assume. It tells a story and that of course means there is a beginning, middle, and end.
There were interviews with @blocktrades, @theycallmedan, @starkerz, @andrachy, and @yabapmatt. Each one provided a different perspective about a very important moment in history for crypto. This will ensure that people will always remember how Steem was forced into becoming Hive. Many were struck hard during that transition phase, but the community did not give up and you see where we are now, it has paid off.
I liked how the film had plenty of variety. It wasn't one person getting interviewed. Switching up the scenes kept things interesting. I didn't feel confused at any point and I think the average viewer, even those who are not too familiar with crypto, will be able to have a firm understanding of what the film is discussing.
I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator, but he didn't ruin the film for me. I just didn't love him. I'm sure some people will have the opposite opinion about him. I'm not throwing shade, just giving my personal opinion.
Other than the narration, I didn't have any major gripes with the film. It was high quality and I could tell the producers know what they are doing when it comes to creating a proper film. Was it perfect? Of course not, nothing in this world is. However, I don't see anybody else taking the time and money to create a film like this one.
Some will argue that a portion (not sure how much) of the funding was from Hive's DHF, but at least the funds resulted in something tangible. There are some pretty unproductive things being funded by the DHF and Freechain is certainly not one of those unproductive things. I mean come on, we got an entire film out of this and there are not too many blockchains that can say that.
I want to say thank you to everyone who was involved during the creation of Freechain. This is a story that rightfully deserved to have a film like this created.
Although it was only for a split second, I am proud to be featured in such a remarkable film. If you submitted a video talking about what Hive means to you, did you catch a glimpse of yourself like I did?
If you spent the $12 and watched Freechain, drop your thoughts about it below. I'm sure there will be some varied opinions. Overall I was impressed and look forward to when it will be streamable for a larger audience in the future.
Closing words...
