Today with my entry to Memoir Monday #47 which asks: If you had to sum up your purpose in life in one sentence, what would it be and why?

The phrase that comes to my mind I built it years ago, as an affirmation that accompanies me in my beliefs and convictions. “I live with joy what life offers me”, a phrase that captures much of what my purpose in life is, that in many ways defines me and in a conscious and intentional way I decide to make it a reality, to live it.

I can't say that I was always conscious of it. I think back to my childhood, I was about seven years old, when an aunt, who lived with us, hugged me and in front of the whole family group told me: -I am glad you wake up smiling every day, never stop doing it- although I am sure I have woken up many times sulking, the inner smile, that joy for life has been present, with the renewed faith that the day that has just begun will be better.

Throughout my working life dedicated to teaching, I was convinced that my great mission was that my students would learn with love, that they would love it, and the most effective way was to make the process of learning centered on the experience in the meaningful, which gives a different dimension, in my opinion, to knowledge.

If it was literature, nothing better than becoming a storyteller and dramatization, if it was biology, experiments, if it was history, representations..., possibly much of this is due to the training I received, because the constructivist theory of learning was booming, based on the psychological and pedagogical work of authors such as Piaget, Ausubel and Carl Roger focused on humanism.

To make learning something dynamic, creative and meaningful is to have an optimistic and kind vision of life, based on the premise that you cannot give what you do not have. Perhaps that is why I fell in love with my profession and considered that the school, although its main function is to transmit knowledge and training, is also a space for socialization that should offer children and young people better experiences than what their social and often familiar context offers them.

I am very clear about my purpose in life, and part of it is to live in peace, joy and abundance, three elements that, although it is true that they are born from within you, the outside influences it significantly, so as I point out in one of the paragraphs, I intentionally try to live experiences that lead me to these states of being, and I try to expand them so that they reach those who want to receive them.

To live with joy what life offers me is more than a phrase, slogan or mantra, it is a way of perceiving the world, of being in it in the present time and making each moment the best moment.

Hoy con mi entrada al Memoir Monday #47 que nos plantea: Si tuvieras que resumir tu propósito en la vida en una frase, ¿cuál sería y por qué?

La frase que llega a mi mente me la construí hace años, como una afirmación que me acompaña en mis creencias y convicciones. “Vivo con alegría lo que la vida me ofrece”, una frase que recoge gran parte de lo que es mi propósito de vida, que de muchas maneras me define y de manera consciente e intencionada decido hacerla realidad, vivirla.

No puedo decir que siempre fui consciente de ella. Pienso en mi niñez, tendría como siete años, cuando una tía, que vivía con nosotros, me abrazó y delante de todo el grupo familiar me dijo: — Que bueno que todos los días te levantas sonriendo, nunca dejes de hacerlo— aunque estoy segura que me he levantado muchas veces enfurruñada, la sonrisa interna, esa alegría por la vida ha estado presente, con la fe renovada de que ese día que recién comienza será mejor.

A lo largo de mi vida laboral dedicada a la enseñanza, estuve convencida de que mi gran misión era que mis alumnos aprendieran con cariño, que le agarraran amor y la manera más efectiva era hacer de los procesos un aprendizaje centrado en la vivencia en lo significativo, lo que le da una dimensión, a mi modo de ver, distinta al conocimiento.

Si se trataba de literatura nada mejor que volverte un cuentacuentos y la dramatización, si era biología los experimentos, si era historia las representaciones…, posiblemente mucho de esto se deba a la formación que recibí, pues estaba en pleno auge la teoría constructivista del aprendizaje, fundamentada en los trabajos psicológicos y pedagógicos de autores como de Piaget, Ausubel y Carl Roger centrado en el humanismo.

Hacer del aprendizaje algo dinámico, creativo, significativo pasa por tener una visión de vida optimista y amable, partiendo de aquellos que no puedes dar lo que no tienes, quizás sea por eso que me enamoré tanto de mi profesión y consideré que la escuela, si bien, su función principal es transmitir conocimientos y formación, también es un espacio de socialización que debe ofrecer a niños y jóvenes experiencias mejores a lo que les ofrece su contexto social y muchas veces familiar.

Mi propósito de vida lo tengo muy claro, y parte de él es vivir en paz, alegría y abundancia, tres elementos, que si bien es cierto nacen de tu interior, lo exterior lo influye notablemente, por lo que como señalo en uno de los párrafos, me procuro intencionadamente vivencias que me lleven a esos estados del ser y procuro expandirlos para que lleguen a aquellos que lo quieran recibir.

Vivir con alegría lo que la vida me ofrece es más que una frase, consigna o mantra, es una manera de percibir el mundo, de estar en él en tiempo presente y hacer de cada instante el mejor momento.
