"Say the truth and the truth shall set you free" he voice re-echoed in my ears, I was sweating profusely, my heart racing every part of my body shaking uncontrollably as I look at Mr Olu's cold face and he gives me his killer stare.

Moments earlier……

It was break time in my secondary school, if I can vividly remember I was in JSS 2. I and my friends ran out of the class immediately the bell rang, we headed straight to our favorite segment of the school's cafeteria, to buy our regular which was chilled sobo, chin-chin and some mouth watering moi moi (beans cake).

While we were going, with all the possible velocity our body could carry us with, not just because we were hungry, but because our parents don't give us enough pocket money for lunch. So we had to rush down to where we would get the cheaper (talking about the quantity) and most tasty of all the cheaper ones available.

You see from where I grow up, it is one thing for you not to have money and it is also another not for you to be able to you your "common sense".

We ran as fast our legs would carry us, while we were running, I saw some amount of money on the floor which I guess my friends did not make notice of, for I can swear in anything on this planet earth that if they had seen it they would definitely had taken a halt to share the money amongst them no matter how hungry they were.

It happened that they were faster than I was that day, I took a halt, looked left, right front, back and all other possible angle to notice if there was anyone looking at me but luckily for me there was no one.

With a broad smile on my face I walked majestically to the cafeteria, they all inquired why I delayed because it was unusual for me. With a big smile I said to them "it all happened for our good".

I told them to finish up what they were eating and let usove to a better restaurant, we got to there bought things food worth seven thousand naira at a spot, but drinks and some small chops and bought for other students we found there.

From my calculations, we spent almost seventeen thousand naira during break. I was shocked myself, too much for a JSS 2 student.

Time passed so fast, Mr Olu walked into the class and started flogging us all saying we must provide ethe thief that stole Bisi's school fees.

My heart sank, my head was all screaming shouting "it's at this moment, I know that I've "fkvced" up".

"Sir I saw this girl buying food at FEEDWELL" said a boy from the class pointing directly at my face.

Mr. Olu dragged me to the front of the class, and he had landed me several slasp on my face just befir I could defend myself.

Did you pick the money hea asked one more time, this time he question was more louder and scary.

"Say the truth and the truth shall set you free" he voice re-echoed in my ears, I was sweating profusely, my heart racing every part of my body shaking uncontrollably as I look at Mr Olu's cold face and he gives me his killer stare.

"Yes sir I picked the money" I answered before I should complete my statement, I was already unconscious.

Days later I was given listening ears, and I told them even though I said the truth which I was supposed too, I did pick the but I didn't steal it.

The truth labeled me a thief.
