This week, I bought myself a new drone, I have opted for the DJI Mini 3 Pro, and I have to say, it's a completely different beast to the DJI Mini 2 that I owned previously.
The weather hasn't been on my side, from the day I collected the drone, we've had rain and wind, not good when you are itching to get out and do some aerial photography.
I bit the bullet and took the drone out in stronger winds than I should have, admittedly it wasn't something stupid like 20mph more, (gusts about 6-8mph more than recommended). However, the drone held it's position absolutely brilliantly, I was well impressed.
By the way, my last two drones were called Josephine, however, I wanted to name this one something different, so please meet Delilah lol (I do like to give them names for some weird reason that I can't fathom).
So after all that waffling on, I bet you are wondering what is back to it's former glory as the title suggests, well, it's the monument, the last time I'd visited there was scaffolding up all over it, you couldn't really see the monument due to the works that was being carried out. Keppels Column, which is the monuments name has been brought back from the brink and restored to it's former glory, I still haven't been up it as yet, as it's only open from time to time, and I'm usually working, however, I'm hoping I can get up to the top pretty soon.
As a kid, and I mean a really young kid, we sometimes used to walk up to the monument as a family day out, although not too far from where I used to live, I remember my Dad and uncle, both climbing up part of the structure although they would have been mad to climb to the top as it stands around 115 feet, when you are stood on the ground looking up at it, it seems hell of a lot taller.
Keppels Column is also the tallest of the four follies that are on the old Wentworth estate. It is an impressive building when you are up close and personal with it.
Also, don't let the pictures fool you into thinking it's in the middle of no where, it's on the edge of a housing estate, which when I was a kid was farmland.
So back to the drone, I am pretty impressed with it so far, although not flown it too many times as yet due to the weather, I can clearly see a massive difference between the quality of picture from the Mini 2 to the Mini 3, it's almost what I've been looking for, very very good, but not perfect, but I think that's because I'm used to using my Sony A7iii as well, which is exceptional picture quality. Another cool feature is the ability to take portrait shots as well as panorama shots with the drone, didn't think I'd use this feature much, but I've already used it more than I thought I would.
Anyhow, that's it from me today, I really hope you've enjoyed the blog..
All the best :-)
