A Disappointing Experience

in #hive-1502106 days ago

While it is said that, "every disappointment is a blessing", it never felt so in this occasion. I think I might have had to argue the validity of such a statement if someone had deemed it fit to confront me with such statement at a time like that. This in no way is meant to invalidate the statement, I consider it holds true in many cases – well, maybe not this case.

You know it really hurts to be disappointed. Not because of the disappointment though, no. Much more, it’s because of the confidence or trust you've had in that person or system to execute such a thing, task or to be there, without a shadow of doubt that makes it really painful. More painful it is when you've been reassured several times amidst doubt but yet, you so much decided to put it aside because of again, the confidence or trust.
My experience of disappointment here was not one that occurred with a family member or someone I will really tag "a friend" per say. Nevertheless, we got friendly but that on the premise of business and greetings, more like that.

It was a time when I was still in the higher institution of learning. During those days, while I was on my industrial training, I had issues with my laptop. I needed someone to fix it, and because I had been working close to this guy who was into computer and phone repairs, I thought him to be the best option to give it a diagnosis and let me know what was wrong. So yeah, I did just that. On his part, he assured me it will be done, so come back a certain day. I guess you can tell where this is heading to.

On the stipulated day, I went with the hope to know what was wrong with my laptop and the next step to take. As much as your guess would be, he didn't do it. I had to schedule another time to come. On this other day, he had checked it and gave me some reason why he thinks it might have been giving me issues and suggests some things to buy so as fix it. I was going to get back to him, I told him but then he was supposed to couple my laptop together and give back to me. And here then was where the problem began.

After setting a day to come around and get my laptop - coupled together already - it was not ready on the day I came. We had to reschedule again. Came back that scheduled day and yet it was not ready. This continued into about a month. An issue with the situation was the fact that I barely had time then due to the work I was doing. For that reason, I sometimes go there only to find him closed before the normal time. At other times I'm just tired to wait and argue again so, I just leave. Well, I wasn't much in need of the laptop then.

Finally, I got it but my laptop wasn't looking as I gave it. I had to take it like that. The pain of the situation all was when I later put in my hard drive back into the laptop - this was removed while handing the laptop for check to ensure the safety of my hard drive. After slotting it back, I couldn't find my files, yeah, they had wiped away due to some sort of exposure through those periods. It was disappointing for me.

Well, I confronted him concerning the situation, but the deed was done. It was an uneasy burden in my heart for some time. Anytime the thought of my lost files come or I see the laptop I become uneasy. Nevertheless, I did my best to forgive. So yeah, I forgave him but then I knew I was never going to give him any gadget for repairs again or refer any person, not even in my dreams. Haha.

I think disappointments are certain things we'll always see in life, yet such experiences shouldn't mold us entirely into the character of totally losing confidence or trust in people. Some might fail and many will, but then there are some that will remain true and wouldn't disappoint.

Bro you never gist me this one ooo
Kaaai that was so bad of the engineer. though I cannot trust any of my gadgets with any engineers, I will patiently wait for them to fix it before i leave.

I had similar experience too. Sha thank God you were able to get your laptop back but mine was a story. The guy promised to pay me back but upto today he has paid and I just need to forgive him but I change my approach towards every engineer.

I will try and participate. Thank you so much for the mention bro.

Bro, was a long story.
And just like your case he said he wasn't to pay for some damage to the parts but no go didn't. Had to forgive him too. And my approach is same as yours now, to wait for them to fix it. I guess experience teaches us lessons.
