German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has proposed a new special fund for the Armed Forces. In an interview, he warned that, in the next Bundestag, the AfD and BSW could block new funding for the Bundeswehr. The 100 billion in the current fund will end in 2027. For a new fund, a two-thirds majority is needed. Habeck stressed that if the fund were blocked, Germany would be more vulnerable to external threats.
With the exit of the FDP from the "Ampel Koalition", the Scholz government no longer has a stable majority. However, Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) is pushing to approve new gas power plants for the country's energy security, which can then be converted to hydrogen for the ecological transition. The project risks, but Habeck hopes that at least there is consensus on this. Also at the center is an amendment to the energy law. “The crisis could open a new phase,” Habeck said, referring to opportunities to find alternative alliances for green projects.
