What's buzzing, friends?
Halloween has been around for centuries, and its origins can be traced back to ancient Celtic festivals.
The Celts, who lived in what are now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated a festival called Samhain. This festival marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. On the night of October 31, the Celts believed that the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. They would light bonfires and dress up in costumes to ward off evil spirits.
The tradition of Halloween was brought to North America by Irish immigrants. In the late 1800s, immigrants from Ireland and other parts of Europe were fleeing the Potato Famine. They settled in major cities like New York and Boston.
The Irish brought with them many of their traditions, including Halloween. The holiday was originally called All Hallows’ Eve, later becoming the birth of what we call Halloween now.
It would seem that "Halloween", in one way or another, has been celebrated for centuries, and its meaning has changed over time. Today, Halloween is primarily a time for fun and entertainment, but it still retains some of its older, more traditional meaning (*even if people don't realize it).
For many people, Halloween is a time to dress up in costumes and attend parties. For others, it is a time to remember the dead and honor their memories. Whatever the meaning of Halloween may be for individual people, it is still a time to come together and celebrate.
We hope you all stayed safe this weekend and have a safe and happy Halloween!
