The feeling of betrayal can lead to a difficult emotional challenge especially when it is from a close or trusted person. Whether the betrayal is caused as a result of a partner's infidelity or your partner didn't seem to stand up to defend you when the odds were against you.

Or even when your bestie didn't reach out to you during your down moments. There are people who feel betrayed by the government, their religious leaders or educational system. These emotions can break you down and make you feel like you are alone because the people who you feel will stand up for you failed to do so.

Betrayal is bound to surface in romantic relationship, business relationship, family relationship, friendship etc. The aftermath of betrayal can hurt so bad that it can break you if not effectively handled. We always expect people dear to us to be there for us whenever we need them but in a case where they betray us we feel vulnerable.

The moment betrayal has been detected, people have different ways of expressing it which may include shouting and lashing out in anger, blaming oneself for trusting in the betrayer. It could also lead to losing self-esteem, confidence or mental health issues.

Quite understandably, friendship is important to both our physical and mental growth. We feel loved when we know that people have got our back - the show of love and care can give us a sense of calmness, and absolutely reduce our stress levels. On the other hand, betrayal can be destructive when it is from friends.

This may mean that the heartbroken person may not be open to entertaining friendship as time goes by because of the scar in their heart from the past experiences. Imagine if you have always been there for your friend when they lost a loved one, or their parents are going through a divorce process and so on, but they failed to show up for you when you needed them the most.

Betrayal can also occur in the family and this may even hurt badly than that of friendship. The reason is that the family is the first line of love. When our friends fail to extend love to us we are rest assured that we can fall back to our family but sometimes family also fail. For instance, parents who battle with alcohol and other substances may not have adequate time to cater for the needs of their family and this lack of love may cause some damages in the children's life such as engaging in unproductive activities. If your brother or sister is caught doing something wrong, it will affect you all as a family and you will feel betrayed by your parent's lack of emotional presence.

It is important to note that if the betrayal situation disturbs you and you think about it too much to the extent that it affects the free flow of your daily activities, then you need to make conscious efforts to show compassion to yourself.

This may be achieved by first forgiving the person and let all the incident be in the past. Also, depending on the severity of the betrayal you may have to seek professional help. Professionals that deal with trauma issues can help you overcome the situation quicker.

Thanks for your time and see you in my next one.
