A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words: How to Break Up a Cruise Fight as an Opera Singer

What I see: A small cruise ship or big yacht is in port, and it looks like it may be boarding or it may be a port day -- there may be a line there. The ship's name is hard to see at the photo's angle, but I see that it is "Aida," and it looks like maybe "AIDAmar," which would mean "Aida [of the] Sea."

What I feel: An old childhood memory ... the Broadway version of Verdi's opera Aida translates the aria "Celeste Aida" as "My Heavenly Aida" ... and then at the same time I've been watching all these cruise videos where folks can't figure out how to break up a fight, and that just can't happen on a ship named Aida, so ...

“You seem really happy about your cruise, Karl,” said his sister Wilhelmina.
“Well, there was a incident of conflict on board I de-escalated by singing the aria 'Celeste Aida' and calming everyone down.
“Virtue is its own reward, but also, the cruise line refunded my ticket cost and tipped me!”

Enjoy my favorite tenor, singing "Celeste Aida"!

Heh, heh, heh, heh, they even gave him his money back with tips... Some people are lucky.

Lucky? No. That takes skills -- as a high-level musician I can tell you that the gift needs a lifetime of improvement and maintenance to keep at a high level -- and also moral courage and generosity Karl has an antecedent -- not as well-known, but a bass peer of Pavarotti -- who was known not to have trouble with anyone and could change a room instantly for the better because of the content of his character. Lucky? No. People will bless you for being a consistent blessing, sooner or later.

Long time ago (30?) I watched it. Once so common. I wonder what happens if someone starts singing this way...will people stop fighting?
Thanks for sharing.

@ wakeupkitty, hanging around a bit longer till the video stops...

The video was there for you to hang around for ... Pavarotti is a special treat!

It depends on the people ... there is a good chance that people would do just as you have done: get so interested in the singing that they pause in doing anything else. Sometimes that break is just enough for people who think they want to fight to calm down. But, it does depend on how seriously said people want to fight, too.

I wouldn't fight but listen and tell the fighting bush to be silent. 🤣

Calming everyone down during a fight is not easy so he really deserved his refunded ticket and the tip.. 😊

EXACTLY ... took those skills and tapped into that "blessed are the peacemakers" type of situation!

I admire Carl's ability to calm everyone down.

Rare and special are the people that can and WOULD do what he did, indeed.
