During a visit to my brother in Abuja, he regaled me with captivating stories about Usuma Dam. Eager to experience it for myself, we excitedly planned a Saturday visit for sightseeing.
As he informed me, Usuma Dam was constructed in 1990 to support Abuja, the new capital city that replaced Lagos in Nigeria. Serving as the source of water for Abuja's growing population, the dam plays a vital role in the city's development. It's named after the Usuma River, upon whose catchment it sits. All the drinking water for Abuja's residents is sourced from this dam after undergoing treatment.
Usuma Dam isn't just utilitarian; it's also a recreational haven for locals and visitors alike. The dam's beauty, along with its picturesque surroundings, beckons people for picnics, relaxation, and leisure activities. The gentle breezes that caressed us during our visit created a perfect atmosphere for relaxation. Every moment spent there was truly worth it.
