Out of Spite

in #hive-19623325 days ago

Spite is a bad word. So are it’s synonyms like defiance and bitterness. But in rare occasions, it is a negative state that can propel you towards unlocking what I like to call Beast Mode – The state to be operating at, to become the best version of yourself at any given time. It’s not advised to turn spite into a source of motivation, but the joy of doing things you were considered incapable of, is an ecstasy no drug can give you.

If care is not taken, it could be misunderstood that I’m saying that you should weaponize your suffering, and mold it into motivation. That is in fact exactly what I’m saying, just with some slight reservations. I’m not suggesting that you live your life trying to prove people right or wrong. What I am suggesting though is to challenge yourself to become who they think you can’t be despite their disbelief. This is about you, not them, and the “spite” is not a hate towards people who don’t believe in you, but a call to rise to the challenge.

There is no greater fuck you to the circumstances that would’ve otherwise had you crumble and succumb to the adversities of your background, or to the people who downplay your potential, than succeeding against crazy odds despite and in spite of them or it.
Of course, this is not to say that you should commit your life to proving people wrong, or fighting the limitations that your background would place on you. That would be enslaving yourself (which is in fact counter to what I’m driving at).

The idea is to be free from the limitations that other peoples’ judgement of your potential would impose on you, or even challenges the universe tests you with. You don’t make it your life’s commitment to become president of Ghana just because some people in your village said it’s out of your reach. If this is what you truly want, then it would make sense to want to achieve it out of spite, because that is extra motivation. If it’s not, it’s simply a useless pursuit that does not deserve your attention, and worse, lifelong commitment.

Truth is that no one wants to experience pain or suffering, but if you do (and you more than likely will), and especially if it’s extreme, draw motivation from it if you have to, to succeed despite the things that would cripple you. This sounds like something straight out of American Psycho or something like that, but it’s really just random thoughts that stuck in my mind as I tried to read other peoples’ minds walking around a busy market today.
