To start with, I realized at some point that I was very bad with Time management. This I found out during one of the many jobs I took as a ghostwriter. I would keep putting off things until the last minute and there was always a narrow escape. It was not good, but try telling that to my young mind.
I have taken quite a number of remote jobs over the years, although I had no idea that was what it was called then, not until I came to a point of understanding. Now that I know, I look back and compare my days present at the office to days at home. I started working at 17, doing little things like operating a shop to which the shop owner could give me whatever they saw fit. Then I graduated high school and started working at a bet shop, which required my presence from 8am to 6pm…
From there, I found my way out of the state I am based doing some sort of networking job in Abuja. I was never scared to work and that is very much obvious on my resume. From Abuja, I came back home and would proceed to work as a salesperson for some companies and then finally a wine shop before I finally got to know about Hive.
During this time, I would work remotely again for about six months in which mom and I would start up our own business. I had to give a glossary so I can properly explain my points.
I do not know how it is in other countries, but over here in Nigeria, you are paid by the month and you can be worked to the bone while earning peanuts. Our desperation is often used to the advantage of these employers. While being present in the office, working Sunday to Sunday, I had no time for myself. I was always burned out and as much as I looked forward to leaving the house and putting myself to use, I would always end up in a bad place, tired, frustrated and depressed.
I had no time for walks, movies or anything relaxing. I was always busy, no time for friends or family. I could do so little even when I finally registered to further my education. I would try to study in between work but that was always a problem for the bosses or I just could not concentrate.
It was hell, in a nutshell. By the time I got to know Hive, I caught up on all the fun I was missing. However, the free time became too much and I found myself slipping into the old shell of who I was.
How was I finally able to create balance?

When I got around to understanding that these things worked with systems, was when I was working for some big shot last year. I knew I had to keep afloat somehow and it was not easy not with all that was demanded of me. Last minute things did not work at all and no matter how good my best was, seemed like it was never enough.
Then I started my business and had to create a balance with Hive. That was very hard to do. Like my friend said, I am like a whirlwind and I just blow anywhere. I have not perfected this balance thing but I seem to be doing better than I was last year.
Honestly, to me working remotely is just the best. Does not mean it is easier but it is much easier to create a schedule that works and helps you especially when it comes to your personal life. You can work with systems that puts you on track and not the ones created for you that may just seem too hectic.
In conclusion, while working remotely has its benefits, if you do not understand the concept of time management and timely delivery, you may just end up doing mediocre jobs and putting too much pressure on yourself.
