Obsessed
You all are probably getting sick of my Elden Ring posts, but this game is the only thing I have been playing for the past week and a half or more. All these days are blending together as I play through this game and I have barely scratched the surface.
I was able to beat Rennala the Queen of the Full Moon on my last stream and I am sure it was because of the rune farming that I did prior to completing that boss. My guy is pretty over powered, but I have found that it is making the game a lot more enjoyable. Ever since I found that place to farm runes, I haven't been as nervous as I am exploring and I am really enjoying the whole exploration aspect of this game a lot more. And there is a ton to explore.
So as the title of this post says, Elden Ring better get game of the year. Hell, it is one of the greatest games I have ever played. Over the years, a lot of games have gotten bland and there is usually a sort of mold that game developers stick to, but Elden Ring is breaking that mold and changing so many aspects of gaming.
This game has really reignited my thirst for exploration in gaming. This whole world has been carefully crafted and packed with so many secrets and things to discover. It is really hard to explain how vast this world is without you being able to experience it.
I have never seen anything like this in gaming before where you turn a corner and you catch a glimpse of a massive sprawling city that opens up for you. One thing I love about this game is that it just isn't packed with mobs of enemies all over the place and each enemy is intentionally put in their spots. Then when you kill an enemy, they stay dead until you rest at a spot of grace.
I was exploring this area for hours last night and it was a while before I rested, and the streets and buildings were so deserted, giving a sense of isolation as you wander around.
As I was walking around in this area, there were a few different enemies to kill, and luckily I did, because a mini boss slammed down into the ground and the fight went down a few streets and around some of the corners. It was amazing.
One thing that I really love about this game is that it rewards you for your time that you put into it. There is a real sense of accomplishment when you defeat a boss that killed you so many times. I have had so many of the Souls players tell me this before, but I never understood it until now. The difficulty in other games can get annoying, especially when you are fighting bosses or enemies that are nothing but bullet sponges, so there isn't much "skill" involved and it is all about having the best gear.
I have seen videos of people beating this game with a level 1 character and a club, but they are so good at fighting the bosses that they can parry and dodge everything. It is crazy to watch these people play because I know how hard the fights are, but they make it all look so easy.
Aside from the amazing graphics of this game, another thing that makes it so awesome is the music. The musical score is amazing. The game can go from barely any music, to the most epic soundtrack ever as you find a new secret area or stumble upon a boss.
I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones and this game is essentially right out of the Game of Thrones world. I found a few more dragons today and those are some of the most epic battles because the dragons are so massive and they can come crashing down into the cliffsides and just break everything as they spew fire or ice from their mouths.
I didn't really progress the main story much at all today. Instead I spent time doing a lot of the side quests to find some new armor and spells. There is so much to this game and I have barely put a dent into it. I am nearly 50 hours in and only like 16% of the way through the main quest and I have barely done any of the side content.
Ever since I turned off the multiplayer and don't have all the messages or ghosts of other players running around, it has allowed me to really get immersed into the world.
If you have not played Elden Ring yet and you have a machine that can handle it, I highly recommend this game. We have not had a game like this come along in such a long time and it really is a breath of fresh air for gamers to have a game that is so polished and complete when it is released. There is no promise of DLCs, microtransactions or anything. It is a complete game that delivers on every promise it has made to gamers. That is something that the larger gaming companies need to take note of.
I am taking my time to really enjoy this game because it is perfect on every level.
