The problem
I don't know how many of you would resonate with me if I told you that I tend to be enthusiastic about things in the beginning but become very slow and start procrastinating at the end. The biggest problem is that my mind runs a million miles an hour and I jump from one thing to another. People call it multi-tasking and think that it is not really a problem but rather something that should be praised.
But multitasking leads to lots of things done in a mediocre way.
The major mistake I've made is thinking that I can master multitasking. I am a prime example of how multitasking can actually lead to delays. It is the same principle as having your feet in two boats, except there are several boats and all parts of your brain are pulled in all directions.
## My Solutions
Deep work
Do you have times when you’re trying to watch a movie and your cat won't stop meowing? This is where deep work comes in. It's like trying to swim upstream while someone's throwing rubber ducks at you. But hey, at least we can all pretend to be productive, right? It's like disappearing into a black hole of productivity where time and reality cease to exist. Boom!
Pick one thing at a time, focus all your energy on it, and do it well. For example, if you're cooking, give it your entire attention. You will be surprised at how much time you'll save. I had the habit of working while cooking. Yes, I took my laptop into the kitchen. The result was that sometimes I burned, overcooked, or missed a step during food preparation. It led to more REWORK.
Using the deep work technique is like having a productivity superpower! You'll be getting more done than a superhero on a caffeine high.
My first thought when I heard this was:
So, all you have to do is lock yourself in a room and ignore the world to get things done? Easy peasy! Why didn't I think of that before? cue eye roll
**### Pareto's principle **
This principle is for project management, which is mostly used at work, but it can extend to everything.
Simply put, it means 20% of the effort gets you 80% of the results. That's like finding out you only need to study for 20% of the exam to get an A. The first time I heard it, I thought, Sign me up for that! It's like the VIP list for your to-dos. You know, the ones that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. It's like finding the golden ticket in your chocolate bar, but for productivity.
But during this entire process, what is the most essential thing? Breathing. And once you figure out what else you need to do, make sure to put on your blinkers and focus like a ninja. Don't let those pesky distractions get in the way.
There you have it! Sometimes, fixing a single aspect of your life can have a big impact.
