In the Namibian desert there is an abandoned town, Kolmanskop where it's possible to get an idea of a former diamond town. Kolmanskop is located a few kilometers east of Lüderitz. Kolmanskop was founded by a German in 1908, when diamonds were found here. After they found the diamonds this town became rich. It grew fast. But the people left when richer diamond finds were made further south. The left many things behind. When it was abandoned it was left to the desert. Many of the houses are filled with sand. But as I went into many of the houses, I also saw many belongings they had left behind. Today it can be visited and you can join a guided tour to some of the buildings. They had a school, theatre, casino, bowling alley, an ice making factory and even their own tram. A facinating place to discover all the things they had left behind.
