City Garden, the shopping center that never was

I think this is a somewhat strange post for this community since it is about a construction that did not finish, but despite that, this site has become over the years a reference in the general culture of the city because at the time it had a lot of potential, it looked like a proposal that would be very successful thanks to its location and architectural style that was discovered as the months went by. Everything was going smoothly and at a seemingly fast speed, but one day suddenly everything came to a standstill and in that sense not one more block was placed.

This construction is famous because it is very easy to see it thanks to its location, it is located on Avenida Las Delicias very close to the Maracay sports center, the military circle and the Europa business center, in addition, there are large neighborhoods and urbanizations to the north of the city and many of the citizens who live there must pass in front of this building on their way to the center of the city of Maracay. On the other hand, those on their way to the Central Hospital of Maracay are also obliged to see this construction since on the other side is the Avenida José María Vargas which leads directly to the hospital. There are also banks and several commercial establishments in the surrounding area, so the location of what would become the City Garden shopping center was more than ideal.

As a curious fact, the name of the mall was due to the popular way in which the city of Maracay in Venezuela is known, it is known as the “Ciudad Jardín” because the general atmosphere of the city is quite populated with large trees and green areas, so the entrepreneurs wanted to use the popular name, but translated it into English, frankly I did not think it was a bad idea.

Speaking of the building, you could see in the previous photos that it was a modern style from the architectural point of view, if we obviate the deterioration that has had the construction as a result of the abandonment of the same we can notice the great potential it had. The main entrance which is protected by four large columns is crowned by a large rectangular tower, which rises imposingly high above the roof of the building. It is noteworthy that on the sides of the large rectangular tower there is a strip of blue and white with a very particular curved shape, those in principle are the most attractive elements from the visual point of view.

I was very struck by the fact that the color selected for the aesthetics of the mall was blue and not green, I mean, the name of the mall was supposed to refer to the garden city, but well, I guess the architects must have had their reasons, maybe it was not the most convenient for the construction. Much of the blue color is provided by the beautiful windows that are observed in a large proportion of the building.

I am very curious to know what happened with this construction, they even left the cranes installed, I never knew and maybe I will never know, maybe it was a budgetary issue, but the truth is that it was a mall with a lot of potential which I would have visited for sure. So I shared with you images of the mall that never was, for me it is a great waste. Greetings!

Hey @dinaaczib you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘

I was always very curious about this project, because since construction began, it was clear that it would be a great architectural work that would displace the shopping malls that reigned at that time.

Like you, I am also very curious to know what happened and why the construction was not finished, being that the location was ideal for the mall to have an impressive success.

Now, the general lines of the design for the time of its construction seemed really futuristic to me, with curves and straight lines that blended together, now I think that style has become a bit obsolete. I wish they would resume its construction and offer city dwellers another place for recreation.

The truth is that many of us who see this place will have doubts, it had great potential but I am sure that there was a very bad budget planning. Who knows if they take it back, its location is perfect. Thanks for stopping by Maite.

It must be quite interesting to see inside.

Yes, I would also like to know what it looks like on the inside.

Hello @dinaaczib, the building has a nice and modern design, the windows with tinted glass look very good, it is a shame that the construction has been abandoned, the structure looks deteriorated, it promised to be a great shopping center.

Greetings!

It's a pity it turned out like this, it had a lot of potential. Thank you very much for stopping by.

Yes, it could have been a fantastic masterpiece of architecture. But who knows? As you said, budgetary constraints might probably have halted this promising project. Nevertheless, it's still a marvelous ongoing work of modern design. Amazing discovery @dinaaczib! ☺️

Yes, the truth is that it is still a beautiful project, hopefully things will change here in my country and something good will happen and this place will be among the projects that were left in the middle. Thank you very much for your support!😊

The building is very beautiful to look at and its amazing design with excellent coloring is very beautiful to look at. This curved structure looks very beautiful. which is equal on both sides and shows a circle at the top. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful conversation with this wonderful structure.

Thanks to you for the support, it's a pleasure for me that it happened. Regards.

Greetings @dinaaczib. No worries, your featured project is still valid because it showcases the construction process of buildings. Too bad it wasn't completed but by the looks of it, its modern appeal is captivating; the blue stripes add to the landmark's eye-catching facade. Its simple lines, bold framework, and geometrical profiles are proof of its impeccable architecture. ☺️
